They play the first of six round-robin games this afternoon with the ultimate goal of winning and earning a place at the Little League World Series next month.

The Moose Jaw Little League All Stars are in Victoria for the Canadian Championships. They play Team Ontario this afternoon.

18UAAA Red Sox wrap season up with provincial competition

The curtain has come down on the 2025 season for the East Centra 18U AAA Red Sox as they bowed out of the provincial championship tournament on Saturday.  

After their 4-1win on Friday over the White Butte Broncos, the Red Sox dropped their second Friday game against the Regina White Sox, who eventually worked their way through to the final game, losing out to the Saskatoon Cubs, this year’s champs.  

Cardinals, Lakers see opposite starts to league finals

The Unity Cardinals and Macklin Lakers had different results to open their respective league finals Monday night.

Both playing a best-of-three series, Unity edged out North Battleford in a tight one-run game to take a 1-0 lead in the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League final, while in the Battle River Baseball League, Macklin dropped a high-scoring home opener to Veteran as the Bulls and Lakers matchup in the finals for a third straight year.

Starting with the winning side, the Cardinals hosted Game 1 of the NSRBL finals from their temporary home in Wilkie.

Crush combine grit and grace to win 15U provincial championship

The 15U AA Cochrane Crush are Baseball Alberta Tier 9 provincial champions after going undefeated over the weekend in Fort McMurray.

Sponsored by Sure West Roofing, the team emerged from pool play without a loss, then rallied from a 6-1 deficit to defeat the Westlock Wild 16-9 in the semifinals. They shut out the host Fort McMurray Oil Giants 12-0 in the final to hoist the championship cup.

Head coach and Cochrane Minor Ball president Jackie Nickel says she’s proud of the team, which also included a few players from Canmore.

Millar's lacrosse journey filled with ups, downs, and championships

At just 12-years-old, Olivia Millar has done some spectacular things in the world of lacrosse, and the Mitchell sensation is showing no signs of slowing down as her star continues to rise.

Lacrosse skills started in ringette

"I got into the sport when I played ringette," Millar explains with a chuckle. "I went to a ringette camp and my instructor said I should try lacrosse, they need more girls in the sport. Ringette goalie and lacrosse goalie have very similar skills.

Different crease, same passion

Mavericks beat 57's in pitcher's duel

A pitcher's duel in the WCBL last night.

Adam Korte and Luis Diaz went toe-to-toe for 8 innings in a 1-1 tie between the Swift Current 57's and Medicine Hat Mavericks.

Pinch runner Yusei Uzawa then scored in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Medicine Hat a 2-1 extra innings win.

Korte pitched nine complete innings for the 57's allowing a run, 5 hits, 4 walks, and striking out 8.

Diaz went 8 innings allowing a run on 2 hits with 9 strikeouts.

Trigg Mapes scored the only run of the game for Swift Current.

Former Broncos captain new Calgary Hitmen coach

Dustin Friesen is back in the WHL.

The former captain of the Swift Current Broncos is now head coach of the Calgary Hitmen.

“We are excited to welcome Dustin as our new head coach,” said Hitmen General Manager Garry Davidson in a media release. “He is a proven winner at every level in his playing career and has had a direct impact on championship teams in the past two seasons.

“He has a passion to develop players and to create a strong culture. We know he will lead and guide our team and build on our progression and success from last season.”
