Lacombe and District FCSS is aiming to ease that burden through its annual Tools for School program.
Students living in Lacombe, Lacombe County, Mirror, Tees, Alix and Clive are eligible to apply for school supplies or a certificate toward a new pair of shoes.
The program helps ensure students have the tools they need to succeed and feel confident on the first day of school.
The deadline to apply is July 31.
Six-run inning gives Outlaws a victory over the Marysburg Royals
The Marysburg Royals suffered their third straight loss as they were defeated by the Saskatoon Outlaws 7-3 on Monday night.
After going scoreless through the first three innings, the Royals opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI double from Joel Bauml. Curtis Strueby followed that with an RBI single.
The Outlaws answered back in a big way as they replied with six runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Okotoks Dawgs double header postponed
The Okotoks Dawgs double header has been postponed today (July 22) due to the weather.
The game against the Fort McMurray Giants was originally set for Monday but had to be postponed because of the rain.
The game has been rescheduled to July 28.
Kocur sets blue-collar tone for new Bruins era
A new era is officially underway for the Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins as Drew Kocur takes over as head coach and general manager. After finishing out the 2024-25 season in an interim role, Kocur now has full control of the bench and the locker room, and he's got a clear vision for the future.
“This is a prestigious organization. I’m honoured to be the next head coach,” Kocur said. “Now it’s about putting our stamp on it. We’ve had a good spring camp, we’re looking toward fall camp, and our eyes are on building a successful team for the 2025-26 season.”
Estevan swimmers secure spots for provincials at south semi-finals
The South Semi-Finals swim meet was held in Estevan on Saturday, drawing about 250 athletes from across southern Saskatchewan, including teams from Weyburn, Swift Current, Regina, and Oxbow. The host club, the Estevan Golden Eels, had a strong showing, with several swimmers earning high-point awards and many qualifying for Provincials.
Silvertips climb to the top in Alberta Major Female Lacrosse
After years of being a contender, the U22 Silvertips major female lacrosse team, which includes four Cochrane players, is celebrating its first provincial championship.
They entered provincials with a perfect 16–0 regular season but dropped their opening game 8–5 to the Calgary Cardinals. Decisive wins in their next two games set up a gold medal rematch with the Cardinals.
This time, the Silvertips took control early, jumping out to a 2–0 lead and never looking back, sealing an 8–4 victory to claim the title.

It was a huge win for the Swift Current 57's as they beat Medicine Hat 12-6 in WCBL action last night.

Estevan Elite wrap up strong season at U17B Provincial Championships
The U17 Estevan Elite girls fast-pitch team capped off a successful 2025 season with a solid showing at the Softball Saskatchewan U17B Provincial Championships this past weekend in Rosthern.
The tournament featured 21 teams from across the province, and Estevan opened pool play Friday with an impressive 14–7 victory over the Regina Saints — the top B-ranked team from the Queen City. Sadie Aspinall earned Estevan’s Player of the Game honours in the win.
