SRSD sees 6 candidates for Ward 3 on the board of trustees

In the Seine River School Division, only Ward 3 voters will head to the polls to select their local trustees. 

Senior Election Officer Phil Marriott says candidates for wards one and two are in by acclamation. 

Each ward has three seats on the school board with six people running for those three seats for Ward 3.

“The one thing people don’t know is that you can place up to three votes,” Marriott says. “So, it’s not just a matter of choosing one trustee over another. You can pick three, up to three as your choices.”

Niverville town council candidates answer questions during forum

The Community Resource and Rec Centre in Niverville was humming with chatter as the All-Candidates Forum got underway Wednesday night. The evening was organized by the Niverville Chamber of Commerce.

Brandon Burley, the acclaimed Mayor for the City of Morden, took a moment during Wednesday's local all-candidates forum to dole out a few 'thank yous' and offer a glimpse into his hopes for the city in the next four years.

Rana Bokhari says a focus on justice is needed for next mayor of Winnipeg

The former leader of the Manitoba Liberal Party has set her eyes on the mayor's chair.

Rana Bokhari is a lawyer and led the provincial Liberal Party from October 2013 through September 2016. Now she's looking at politics again as one of thirteen candidates for mayor of Winnipeg.

She shares her thoughts on what should be done to address homelessness, crime, and crumbling infrastructure in the city.

Donuts and Municipal Election talk enjoyed in Portage

The people of Portage la Prairie got a chance on Wednesday night to know the candidates participating in the Municipal Election coming up later this month.

The event called-- "Donut" who to vote for?-- saw 17 out of the 18 registered candidates for mayor or council attend.

The forum was held at the Herman Prior Activity Centre and facilitated by the Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corporation (PCRC). It took place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., encouraging the public to question the individuals that might represent them while also enjoying free donuts.

Rushing hoping for another term as board chair with Southwest Horizon

Nomination deadline ended last month and Cheryl Rushing will be back on the Southwest Horizon School Division board for another term.

She won by acclamation and is one of two trustees in Ward 2 the Deloraine-Waskada ward. The other person acclaimed for Ward 2 was Shantel Logeot.

Cheryl Rushing is completing her first term as a school trustees and she enjoys the work. “I am and it’s a challenge I welcome because it’s something a bit different. It’s an important part of our community how we educate and teach our kids.”

Candidates outline priorities at all-candidates forum in Morden

All ten candidates vying for one of six seats around the City of Morden council table participated in an all-candidates forum Wednesday evening at the Morden Friendship centre, hosted by the Morden Chamber of Commerce.

A question-and-answer session took place following the opening statements. Questions from the crowd focused on growth and unity, immigration, affordable housing, challenges for small businesses, an indoor swimming pool, and what candidates have done to advocate for Indigenous People and the LGBTQIA+ community.
