Mayor Reynard proud of council’s work over his term, as he steps away

It’s been an emotional time for members of Kenora City Council and Mayor Dan Reynard, who are all saying their goodbyes ahead of the 2022 Municipal Election.

During October 7’s Council Meeting at City Hall, Mayor Reynard took time to thank members of council, city staff and the public for all of their support over the last four years – and to clear the air of any misunderstandings about what this batch of councillors have achieved over their term.

All Candidate Debates tonight in Dryden, Sioux Lookout

Dryden and Sioux Lookout residents will be able to hear more from their future council members tonight, as each community hosts an All Candidate Debate ahead of the municipal election.

The Dryden District Chamber of Commerce has organized Dryden’s events tonight at The Centre, beginning at 6 p.m. A live stream will also be made available through their Facebook Page.

Oakland-Wawanesa voters have a decision to make

The municipal election October 26th will give voters in Oakland-Wawanesa an option when voting for head of council.

Incumbent David Kreklewich is on the ballot along with former councillor Dennis Rome.

Rome was on council between 2015-2018 before stepping down just four months into another term. He’s looking for better leadership and feels rural ratepayers are treated unfairly something David Kreklewich denies.

Chris Clacio hopes to engage younger demographic in mayoral race

Mayoral candidate Chris Clacio is the youngest person running and he hopes to remove barriers of oppressive systems if elected.

"I decided to run for mayor, since, back in 2014 I originally wanted to run for mayor just so I could be engaged and more young people felt like they were engaged," says Chris Clacio. "If more young people saw a young person run for the highest level of office in the city, then they can be engaged in any level of politics."

Clacio spent a year working with urban Indigenous young people in Winnipeg's inner city.
