For years, Great Plains College has been working in partnership with local industries to train skilled graduates for in-demand careers. Kevin Friesen recalls a group of girls that met at Cypress Bible Camp a number of years ago. They’d arrived from various parts of Saskatchewan and Alberta but remained in touch. Now, every year, they return to the camp for their annual reunion. 

“This happens all the time,” says Friesen, the camp’s executive director. “We encourage friendship and treating everybody with love and kindness. It’s really easy to make friends at Cypress.”

Leif Brost owns and operates Hawkeye Ranching Company Ltd. together with his wife Melissa. He says that over the years, bull sales have evolved to introduce virtual bidding on the DLMS website, though there is still an in-person aspect to it as well.

“I thought it was just crazy,” he says. “So we bought a bus from an auction sale and it kind of took off from there.”

Like a lot of farm kids in southwest Saskatchewan, Jesse Wellsch enjoyed growing up around agriculture and playing in the dirt. As he got older, he also developed an appreciation for the construction industry. Two summer Co-op seasons and a University of Lethbridge degree in Environmental Science later, he was able to merge his core interests at Vitae Environmental Construction Ltd.
