Sewer flushing soon to begin in Okotoks, expected to continue into summer

Contractors will be flushing out the sewer mains in Okotoks over the next few months.

It serves a few purposes, as it's a proactive maintenance measure to prevent backups and blockages by removing debris.

It also gives the Town a chance to inspect the sewer system to see if any repairs or replacements are needed.

The work is set to start on Monday, April 21, and will continue into the summer months.

AHS issues public alert for confirmed measles case in the Calgary Zone

Alberta Health Services is notifying the public of a confirmed case of measles in the Calgary Zone.

The Calgary Zone includes the City of Calgary and surrounding regions including Okotoks and High River, spanning as far south as Claresholm and Didsbury to the north.

According to the AHS advisory, there were potential exposures in the Calgary, Banff, and Canmore areas between April 6 and 11.

The Big Four Roadhouse will house a wide range of acts during this year's Stampede

The lineup of musical acts performing at this year's Calgary Stampede just got a whole lot more interesting.

The Stampede announced the lineup for the Big Four Roadhouse on Tuesday morning, and it features quite an eclectic mix.

From Natasha Bedingfield to Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit to Tom Morello, formerly of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, and heritage pop and hip-hop acts TLC and De La Soul.

Other featured performers include: Smino, MJ Lenderman & The Wind, Lil Jon, Boys Like Girls, Yung Gravy, mike., and Toque.

Update: Semi rollover on TransCanada slows eastbound traffic

A semi rollover on Highway 1 brought traffic to a crawl just west of Jumping Pound on Tuesday (April 15) morning.

Eastbound traffic was down to a single lane while the scene was being cleared.

No injuries were reported, and nothing of note was spilled from the semi.

Alberta 511 sent out an update saying the scene had been cleared just before 12:30 p.m.

RCMP Association accuses Alberta Minister of Safety of 'spreading false and politically motivated claims'

The National Police Federation (NPF) is pushing back at the Alberta government.

In a media release sent out on Monday, April 14, the NPF said they sent a letter to the Alberta Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Mike Ellis.

In it, they accuse Minister Ellis of "spreading false and politically motivated claims about the Alberta RCMP".

Alberta reports 16 more cases of measles, bringing total to 74

Alberta is reporting 16 more cases of measles, bringing the provincial total to 74 since the beginning of March.

The government says the new cases were reported in Alberta's central and southern zones.

Nearly all cases are in school-aged children, with 18 cases being reported in children under the age of five.

The province says 64 of the total cases have passed the point where the highly contagious disease could be transmitted to others.

Hikers and dog lovers beware - deer ticks are out in Kananaskis

It's not just bears that are crawling around K-Country.

Deer ticks are also out and are looking to latch onto any living thing that moves.

They can usually be found along deer trails or anywhere there is tall grass or shrubbery along well-worn paths.

The tick was found along Zephyr Creek near the Sentinel Day Use area.

Reminder to do tick checks if you and your pets are out for a hike in the Kananaskis area.

Inflation cooled to 2.3% in March as gas prices fell, StatCan says

Canadians got a break on inflation in March as gas prices fell and a slowdown in travel to the United States helped cool airfare costs, Statistics Canada said Tuesday.

The annual rate of inflation slowed to 2.3 per cent last month, down from 2.6 per cent in February. A poll provided by LSEG Data & Analytics ahead of Tuesday’s release had expected yearly inflation to hold steady month-to-month.

StatCan said gas prices fell 1.6 per cent year-over-year in March, coming off a hike of 5.1 per cent in February.
