Highway 22 rehabilitation project begins Thursday
Road maintenance on Highway 22 is set to begin on Thursday (May 1).
The project, between Highway 549 and the Town of Diamond Valley, includes adding turning lanes and improving traffic flow.
BGC Foothills summer program registration now open
BGC Foothills is offering a variety of programs to keep youth in southern Alberta entertained this summer.
Summer camps are offered in Diamond Valley, High River, and Nanton for youth between six and 12 years of age.
Throughout the summer, the camps will feature activities and field trips with individualized themes, such as math and science, the great outdoors, water adventures, and baseball.
Key agriculture voices returning to Parliament
The Liberals have won their fourth mandate this time under the leadership of leader Mark Carney.
When Mark Carney formed government as Canada's 24th Prime Minister on March 14, 2025, he selected 34-year-old Kody Blois from the Kings-Hants riding in Nova Scotia as the Federal Minister for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and Rural Economic Development.
Blois is heading back to Parliament after winning his riding last night. Expectations are that Carney could keep him in that role, but that will be determined when he announces his new cabinet in the days ahead.
The Legion's Show & Shine is back for its 4th year this Sunday
The High River Legion is hosting its 4th annual Show & Shine this Sunday.
Running from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., the event continues to get bigger and better every year.
Registration is $20, and registration starts at 8 a.m.
Live entertainment is back again this year, along with the 50/50 draw, door prizes and awards.

Keep your eyes to the skies this week as helicopters will be on patrol
Watch for helicopter patrols this week in Okotoks and High River.
AltaLink is using a helicopter to check on its electrical transmission facilities in the Foothills.
It's just part of their annual Spring maintenance schedule.
They're expecting to start the work on Monday, May 5 and go right through till Friday, May 9, although it is weather dependent.
Poilievre loses his long-held seat in Ottawa
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre will not have a seat in the next Parliament, after a stunning upset by Liberal candidate Bruce Fanjoy in the riding of Carleton.
Poilievre's loss raises a host of questions about his ability to continue with the Conservative party leadership, and the role he will play as the House of Commons reconvenes.
In his concession speech on election night, Poilievre pledged that Conservatives will "do our constitutional duty of holding government to account and proposing better alternatives."
Liberals win 4th mandate as NDP vote collapses and Singh announces he will resign
Prime Minister Mark Carney promised to unite the country and govern for all after Canadians handed the Liberals a fourth consecutive mandate in Monday's federal election.
"Who is ready," he shouted to cheers and applause and people chanting his name in a crowded hockey arena in Ottawa in the wee hours of the morning. "Who is ready? Who is ready to stand up for Canada with me? And who is ready to build Canada strong?"
Liberals projected to finish just short of a majority after very close election race
Prime Minister Mark Carney will lead a minority government after a very close general election race that left the Liberals just three seats shy of a majority.
Just before 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Elections Canada showed the Liberals projected to win 169 ridings after flipping one riding in Quebec from the Bloc Québécois earlier in the day.
The Conservatives won 144 seats and will form the official Opposition again. The Bloc Québécois followed with 22 seats, the NDP with seven projected seats and the Green Party with one seat.
Jagmeet Singh to step down as NDP Leader after losing seat
Jagmeet Singh says he will step down as the leader of the NDP as soon as a new interim leader is chosen.
Singh conceded defeat in his British Columbia riding of Burnaby Central and the party is at risk of losing official party status.
With the NDP at risk of losing official party status — and after losing his own riding — Singh said he'd be stepping down as leader once the party selects an interim replacement.
"We may lose sometimes and those losses hurt," Singh said, fighting emotion as he stood beside his wife on a stage in Burnaby, B.C.
John Barlow on track for another landslide win in the Foothills
John Barlow, incumbent Conservative MP for Foothills, appears to have handily won the riding for the fifth consecutive time.
As of 10 p.m. on election night (April 28), Barlow leads with 35,200 votes, which represent nearly 77 per cent of the 45,805 total votes counted.
Barlow addressed supporters at his election night party at Highwood Gold at around 8:45 p.m.
