Mini Monster Mash at Okotoks Rec Centre sure to be a spooky good time
The Town of Okotoks will be hosting their Mini Monster Mash event again this year.
It's a free event and will be held in the gymnasium and lobby at the Okotoks Recreation Centre.
"The gym will be set up with play stuff, like the bouncy castle, there'll be a climbing structure, there'll be basketballs, there'll be scoops, beanbags, all kinds of fun stuff to play with," explains Assistant Programmer with the Town of Okotoks Patty Vanwinkle. "And then the lobby will be set up with different stations."
Heritage organizations can apply for documentary funding
There is funding available for community organizations to help promote and strengthen Canada's documentary heritage.
The Library Archives Canada's (LAC) Documentary Heritage Communities Program (DHCP) is open for their 2025-2026 funding program.
Each year, the LAC gives roughly $1.5 million each year to community organizations so the communities can dedicate resources to projects that promote their heritage collections and make them more accessible, on top of strengthening the community's capacity to preserve Canada's documentary heritage.
Walk in stride with Alzheimer Calgary
The annual Alzheimer Calgary Walk and Run is set for Sunday (Oct. 13) which will start at Prince's Island Park.
Registration for people doing the walk only will be open from 8:00 to 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, with the welcome and warm-up from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. The actual Walk and Run kicks off at 10:00 a.m. and will go until noon.
Megan Williams, the Communication Speaclaist at Alzheimer Calgary said the event has run annually since 1990.
Mustangs win convincingly against NDC
The Highwood High School Mustangs Senior Girls Volleyball team came out on top against cross-town rivals the Notre Dame Collegiate Timberwolves in three sets.
It was a best-of-five match between the Mustangs and Timberwolves SV Girls Volleyball; Highwood came out ready to play as they took the first set 25-11.
Poilievre barred from speaking in House for not withdrawing remark about Joly
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre was not allowed to speak in the House of Commons Tuesday as his public feud with Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly spilled into a second day.
House Speaker Greg Fergus delivered the penalty to Poilievre in the morning, a day after he asked the leader of the opposition to withdraw a remark accusing Joly of pandering to supporters of the terrorist organization Hamas.
Solar crosswalk lights targeted in act of vandalism in Nanton
A solar crosswalk in Nanton has recently been vandalized.
The Town of Nanton shared the news on its Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 8).
A witness saw someone cutting the cable of the crosswalk light on the west side of the rec centre and then discarding the lights onto the grass.
The crosswalk is located across from the Tom Hornecker Recreation Centre.
New program allows Okotokians to give first responders a head start
A new program allows Okotokians to give first responders critical information to better protect homes and businesses in case of an emergency situation.
Community Connect is a community risk reduction tool that's recently been adopted by many fire departments across North America.
Okotoks Fire Chief, Trevor Brice, says it allows residents to provide information on their home or business and the people who might be inside, which will assist firefighters and other first responders.

Recent solar activity has generated geomagnetic storms over the last few nights, providing more glimpses at the aurora borealis.
Monday night's display included glimmers of red peaking out through the usual emerald beams, a fairly rare sight when viewing the northern lights.
HTA's bye week saw the junior squad take to the field
The HTA Knights had a bye week but that didn't stop the junior squad from taking on the Bonnyville Voyageurs senior squad in a 21-10 victory.
Ezra Kornelsen picked up the first touchdown for the HTA JV team, followed by Daniel Bowers getting across the endzone for the second touchdown in favour of the Knights. Quarterback Brenden Petersen found Malik Robbins for the third and final touchdown for the Knights.
The Knights put up a total of 248 yards with 130 of them coming through the air. The other 118 yards came from rushing.
Foothills Falcons put away the Cougars
The Foothills Falcons got back in the win column after beating the Catholic Central High Cougars on Friday night (Oct. 4) with a 17-7 win at home.
Quarterback Emerson Liepert would get the Falcons on the board with a three-yard rush for a touchdown in the first quarter.
The Falcons have two games left in the season, they will have a bye week this weekend, then they will host the Strathmore Spartans on Friday (Oct. 18), and play their final game in Lethbridge to face their Collegiate Institute on October 25 at 6:00 p.m.
