Some water repair work is happening this week in Okotoks.

Crews will be replacing a section of water pipe for the Crystal Shores Booster Station.

The work will be done on October 10 and 11, and originally, they were anticipating a portion of Crystal Shores Road to be closed, but crews are now able to complete the necessary work while keeping the road open.

Some fires are prohibited in the Calgary Forest Area

If you're planning to head out to the Calgary Forest Area, be careful where you start a fire.

As of October 8, the Calgary Forest Area is under a fire advisory due to the warm, dry conditions, and strong wind the area has been experiencing.

Now that the area is under an advisory, existing fire permits are suspended, and no new ones will be issued.

HTA junior football came up short against reigning tier four provincial champs

The HTA Knights junior squad were handed their first loss of the season when they visited Lacombe to face the St. Paul Lions.

The reigning tier four Provincial champions, the St. Paul Lions took the game 42-20 against the Knights. After the first half, the Knights were down 13-0. They would get 20 points in the second half, but it wasn't enough to edge out the Lions.

He's just one of many Canadians who own homes in the state. Like him, many have fled because of this hurricane or its predecessor Helene, which unleashed devastation across several southern states just a few weeks ago. 

CFIA releases "What we heard report" on seed regulatory modernization

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has released a report on the latest recommendations and feedback relating to modernizing the seed regulations in Canada.

The process began in 2021 and covers several areas from import to export, seed conditioning, storage, testing and labeling to seed sales.

The National Manager for the Seed Section of the CFIA, Wendy Jahn says a number of the regulations, policies and programs interact with each other and rather than making changes one at a time it makes more sense to take a holistic approach to modernizing the system.

Police are in search of possible stalker in southeast Calgary

Calgary Police have received reports of a suspicious man believed to be responsible for harassment and stalking in the southeast Calgary community of Cranston.

On September 21, Calgary Police received reports of a suspicious man walking by the 0-100 block of Cranbrook Garden S.E. and were believed to have been peeping into a residence.

He was captured on CCTV footage returning to the home multiple times between September 29 and 30.

Okotoks school ranked fourth in Alberta

The Fraser Institute recently released its annual ranking of Alberta secondary schools, and an Okotoks school ranked high on the list.

As part of the ranking process, they look at eight different indicators to determine the ranking.

Those include things like the average diploma examination mark, the percentage of diploma examinations failed, the difference between the school mark and examination mark in diploma courses, and more.

Nanton council opts not to hold by-election to fill vacant seat

On Monday (Oct. 8), Nanton Town Council decided whether or not a by-election is to be held to fill the current vacancy.

The Town announced Councillor Kevin Todd's resignation in September. While the Town announced that it was working on a plan to continue effectively representing its residents, the details of that plan hadn't yet been ironed out.

The Municipal Government Act (MGA) states that by-elections must be held to fill council vacancies unless the vacancy occurs within 18 months of the next municipal election.
