New provincial rebate will help municipalities with their heating bill
The provincial government is helping municipalities become more energy efficient.
While many municipalities in Alberta are trying to find ways to be more energy efficient, the cost of upgrades and improvements often act as a roadblock.
Because of that, the Alberta government announced on Tuesday (Sept. 24) that they are now offering a new Municipal Electricity Generation Program.
This $3 million program will help municipalities lower how much it costs to power and heat their recreation centres, town halls, libraries, and other community buildings.
Memorial ceremony to honour those who helped spruce up George Lane Park
The Town of High River has announced they are holding a memorial tree and bench ceremony on September 25 at 6:00 p.m. to honour the donors who purchased trees and benches at George Lane Park.
The event will also celebrate National Tree Day as Canadians across the country celebrate their love for trees, their natural beauty, and their many benefits.
The memorial trees and benches at George Lane Park were put in placement for a relative or loved one who passed away, graduations, birthday gifts, and wedding or anniversary gifts.
Colten Hayes calls new coaching position "a dream come true"
Former head coach and GM of the High River Flyers of the Heritage Junior B (HJHL), Colten Hayes has officially moved on to the Old Grizzlys as an assistant coach.
Hayes mentions how it's a dream come true to move up to the AJHL after spending a number of seasons coaching in the HJHL.
Cougar attack in Foothills County leaves dog with several injuries ▶️
Another cougar attack has been reported in Foothills County, this time leaving a Scottish terrier with numerous injuries.
The attack happened on Sunday evening (Sept. 22) at a rural property near Millarville, about 15 minutes west of Okotoks.
At about 7:45 p.m. Becca Singer Strasser was putting her kids to bed when she got a call from her husband, who told her their dog was being attacked by a cougar.
Local talent Peyton Krebs signs bridge deal with the Sabres
Okotoks' own Peyton Krebs has officially signed a bridge deal with the Buffalo Sabres of the NHL.
The deal is worth $1.45 million annually over the next two seasons.
Krebs played minor hockey with the Rocky Mountain Raiders U15 AAA squad and posted eye-popping numbers his last year with the team. In the 2016-2017 season, he posted 102 points with 46 of them coming from goals in only 27 games.
Giddy up! RCMP horse auction returns
For the fifth year in a row, people will have the opportunity to purchase an RCMP horse.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have bred their own Hanoverian horses to be used as part of the police force for over 80 years, and there are several up for auction.
On top of performing various functions, such as Royal Family escorts and parades, these horses are used as part of the RCMP Musical Ride, which helps to raise money for local charities and non-profit groups.
Hanoverian horses are known to be strong, robust, and trainable, and are well-known sport horses.
Picket lines are up at the Port of Vancouver
The potential for a strike at the Port of Vancouver has become a reality.
Members of the Grains Workers Union Local 333 were on the picket line at 7 am Pacific Time today after issuing a 72 hour strike notice on the weekend.
The Union and the Vancouver Terminal Elevators Association have been unable to agree on a new contract.
The walkout by more than 600 workers is impacting Viterra's Cascadia and Pacific Terminals, Richardson International Terminal, Cargill Limited Terminal, the G3 Vancouver Terminal and Alliance Grain Terminal.
Poilievre makes case for taking down the government to restore 'promise of Canada'
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre delivered a campaign-style speech in the House of Commons as he asked other members of Parliament to support a motion that could trigger an early election.
Poilievre outlined his plans to increase revenue and reduce interest rates and debt, cut development taxes and restore what he calls "the promise of Canada."
The non-confidence motion Poilievre has put forward is the first test for the minority government since the NDP ended its supply-and-confidence deal with the Liberals earlier this month.

More than 600 workers represented by Grain Workers Union Local 333 are off the job.
Union president Douglas Lea-Smith says the employer need to come back to the bargaining table to negotiate a deal.
The union says it provided the employer with a "comprehensive package" last Thursday and the next day, the association indicated it had no counter offer.
