You could be one of two lucky millionaire lottery winners in rural Alberta

There are two $1 million Lotto Max winning tickets somewhere in rural Alberta.

Two winners from Ontario and Quebec split the record-breaking $80 million lottery on Tuesday, September 17 with 12 more Maxmillion winners across Canada.

Two of those $1-million-dollar tickets were sold in Alberta, outside of Edmonton or Calgary.

The numbers are: 

  • 2, 14, 20, 21, 28, 31 and 42
  • 8, 15, 17, 18, 19, 21 and 39

Winners do have one year to claim their prize.

An Okotoks school is getting a new accessible playground

St. Mary's School in Okotoks is getting a new inclusive playground next summer.

The Friends of St. Mary's School Okotoks Association have fundraised for nearly five years to raise money to install an inclusive playground at St. Mary's School that will help to support those who have mobility challenges and promote play for all.

Watch for lane closure on High Country Drive today and tomorrow

Some shallow utility work will cause a lane closure in the Northwest of High River both today and tomorrow.

The work is being done on High Country Drive, just south of Highway 2A.

It's right across from the Tim Horton's in the Northwest.

One lane will remain open, and some slowdowns are expected.

The Town of High River asks you to slow down, watch for posted signs and follow flaggers for instruction.

Siksika nation artist designs new stamp for the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

A Siksika Blackfoot Nation artist recently designed one of three new Canada Post stamps commemorating the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

Three Indigenous artists were chosen across the country with two-spirited artist Adrian Stimson chosen from Alberta. 

The other two artists are Robert Burke and Helen Iguptak.

Stimson spent time in three residential schools including the Gordon's Residential School in Saskatchewan.

Quebec premier calls on Bloc Québécois to help topple Trudeau government next week

Quebec Premier François Legault on Thursday urged the Bloc Québécois to help topple the federal Liberal government and trigger an election, saying Prime Minister Justin Trudeau continues to disrespect the will of the province.

Bloc Leader Yves-François Blanchet responded moments later, rejecting that call and saying he serves Quebecers "according to my own judgment."

A fee for paper billing is coming to Diamond Valley

The Town of Diamond Valley is going towards paperless billing.

The utility bills get sent out every two months in Diamond Valley, and Town Council had approved a new utility rate for both water and sewer consumptions, which will take effect January 1st, 2025.

They will also be moving away from paper bills and switching over to digital billing.

High River Dog Show will help an animal rescue 

A new dog show in High River this weekend will help raise funds for an animal rescue.

The organizer and emcee of the dog show, Bethany Willoughby, says this dog show will help raise money for a local animal rescue foundation.

"The event is planned to get the community involved and be able to interact with one another, do some fun with their pets. But also allow for an opportunity to raise some money for the Heaven Can Wait Animal Rescue Foundation," Willoughby explains.

Willoughby adds that this isn't like a typical dog show that can be watched on TV.

Clothing found along a rural road leads to homicide charge

A 61-year-old Vulcan County man is facing a second-degree murder charge.

At around 11:14 a.m. on Tuesday (Sept. 17), the Oyen RCMP say they were sent to a location where ‘personal effects and clothing’ were found in the tree line alongside a rural road.

Local police deemed the situation suspicious and called the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit to overtake the investigation.

After some searching near the area, Mounties found the body of a 28-year-old woman from Lethbridge.

The RCMP say they have arrested and charged Garry Brown with second-degree murder.
