Renwick ready to make an impact in Portage

The Portage Terriers have been active in the trade department in the early portion of the offseason. The Dogs have made two separate trades already.

The first brought back forward Alyandro De Leon from the SJHL for future considerations. The second trade saw forward Kalen Reynolds and goaltender Gavin Renwick acquired from the Neepawa TItans for a fifth-round pick.

Renwick spent the last two seasons with the Neepawa Titans but he's looking forward to a change of scenery.

Terriers add two veterans from Titans

The Portage Terriers are making their first trade of the offseason. The Dogs acquired 2004-born forward Kalen Reynolds and 2005-born goaltender Gavin Renwick from the Neepawa Titans for a fifth-round draft pick and future considerations.

Reynolds is a Winnipegger who played 56 games over the last two seasons with the Titans. He scored four goals and dished out seven assists in Neepawa last season. The 19-year-old has two more seasons of Junior A Hockey eligibility.

Former Terrier stepping into the crease at University of Providence

Stonewall product Chris Fines is furthering his hockey career next season in the state of Montana. The former Portage Terrier will play for the University of Providence in the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 2 for the 2023-24 campaign.

Fines helped guide the Niverville Nighthawks to their first playoff appearance in his final season in the MJHL. The 21-year-old finished the regular season with a 15-17 record and a 0.901 save percentage.

Calder "Couldn't be more proud to be from Portage"

With another Junior A hockey season in the books, the Portage Terriers are bidding adieu to their eight 20-year-old players.

One of the hardest for many Terrier fans to say goodbye to is the team captain and Portage-born defenceman Kian Calder. He was disheartened after the Terriers' playoff loss in Game 7 against the Virden Oil Capitals, but Calder is very proud of the way the squad responded at the Centennial Cup.

Peters thanks Terriers for two tremendous years

After 117 games in a Terrier uniform, Austin Peters is saying farewell to Portage la Prairie. The 19-year-old forward was the team's second-leading scorer this past season but is now taking his talent to the BCHL, where he will suit up for the Chilliwack Chiefs.

"After the Centennial, they reached out to my agent, and he told me they had interest. When we spoke, they told me what they wanted me to do for their club, and I thought it would be a good fit."

Peters heading west for 2023-24 campaign

The Portage Terriers are losing more than their eight graduating players next season as forward Austin Peters has signed in the BCHL. The 19-year-old has committed to play for the Chilliwack Chiefs next season.

Last year, Peters was eighth in the MJHL in points with 62 in 53 games and was tied for third in points at the Centennial Cup tournament with eight. This came off of a rookie season where Peters had just 19 points in 44 games.

Stubbs' scoring prowess key in Terriers' Centennial Cup run

The Portage Terriers acquired forward Mike Stubbs at the 2023 trade deadline, and he made an instant impact. Averaging over a point-per-game in the regular season, Stubbs was a top-six forward immediately and ended the year on the Terriers' first line.

At the Centennial Cup, Stubbs had three assists in the six games. The Thunder Bay product says the team from his region (Kam River Fighting Walleye) spoke to him about how much they loved their time in Portage and raved about how well the Centennial Cup was run.

Terriers 2023-24 season tickets on sale

The Portage Terriers season tickets are available now.

The Dogs had an incredible regular season campaign in 2022-23, and they're hoping to follow it up with another prosperous season, but they will need the support of the local fans to do so. Marketing director Cody Buhler says season ticket holders from previous years won't have a larger hole in their pocket than they're used to.
