Event showcases canine expertise while paying tribute to fallen officer

A few weeks ago, Metro Vancouver Transit Police’s explosive detection dog, PSD Harnett, visited Calgary to participate in the Canadian Police Canine Association trials. This annual event brings together law enforcement canine teams from across Canada to showcase their skills in a series of exercises and demonstrations.

Airdrie youth group cleans up local neighbourhood

A group of young Airdronians picked up garbage in Airdrie on Saturday.

Members of "Off The Grid Youth", used their Saturday to clean playgrounds and yards of residents in the Bayside neighbourhood.

According to the group's website, "Off The Grid Youth" strives to equip youth and young adults with the tools they need to prepare them for gainful employment and personal success.

Josephine Sindani’s first memory of using a food bank is a happy one. 

She was eight years old and still adjusting to the shock of an Ottawa winter after recently moving from Halifax, where she and her mom arrived in Canada from Sudan about two years earlier. Saskatchewan Party wins fifth straight majority government, Scott Moe back as premier

Premier Scott Moe and the Saskatchewan Party won a fifth consecutive majority government Monday, losing in the big cities but retaining its iron grip on rural areas to secure victory.

Moe’s party was shut out by Carla Beck’s NDP in Regina and lost all but two seats in Saskatoon.

But it found enough support everywhere else to be elected in 35 seats in the 61-seat legislature, compared with 26 for the NDP.

"Thank you once again, Saskatchewan for placing your trust in our party, the Saskatchewan Party," Moe said as supporters in Shellbrook clapped and whooped.

Up-and-coming Airdronian pop artist drops first single

A new up-and-coming Airdrie artist has released her first single.

Aisha Lincz a pop artist is looking forward to a career in music after releasing her first-ever single "Poison" earlier this month with more music to come next month. Lincz shared some insight on her new single.

"It's about a relationship where someone is head over heels, despite it being toxic, but it's portrayed in a super fun way. When I wrote it, I thought the concept and the name was a fun idea to sing about."

Bloc Québécois set to begin talks to topple Liberal government after deadline passes

The Bloc Québécois is poised to begin talks with other parties to bring down the minority Liberal government, which has not met its deadline to pass two key bills.

Bloc Leader Yves-François Blanchet set the deadline last month, putting the Liberals on notice that to avoid an election "before Christmas" they must adopt a pair of private member's bills.

One of the Bloc bills aimed at safeguarding supply management in trade negotiations has the support of the government and is being studied by the Senate.

Tips from RCMP for a safe Halloween in Airdrie

With Halloween just around the corner, the Airdrie RCMP is providing tips on how to have a safe and fun night.

Jennifer Weedmark, a Constable with the Airdrie RCMP explained they see a lot of pedestrian traffic during the day.

"We have a very large youth community. It's a very family-oriented city. So Halloween is always a really fun, busy evening."

She stated the RCMP will have members out on the roads saying hi to the kids and watching for traffic safety.

"We're looking forward to it this year and hoping the weather is nice for everyone."

Update: Thunder and snow may be in store for Airdrie tonight

Airdrie is currently under a severe thunderstorm warning, with forecasts predicting rain, which may transition to light snow, with up to two centimetres of snow accumulating.

Update: Neighbouring county is under a severe weather warning and it's not what you might think

A previous severe weather warning issued for Mountain View County on Monday evening has ended. A severe thunderstorm warning remains in place for Airdrie and surrounding areas. 

Before, residents near Sundre in Mountain View County were warned to brace for intense weather conditions, as a severe thunderstorm warning had been issued for the area.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing hail up to the size of a nickel.
