Digital agriculture should be a national strategic priority with focused funding in the next federal-provincial-territorial policy agreement to help drive farmer-level adoption, says a new report from the Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute.
CAPI collaborated with EMILI, a non-profit Manitoba organization focused on digital agriculture proving and adoption.

Illegal bait, hidden trout: anglers charged near Bearspaw Dam
Fish and wildlife officers arrested two individuals and issued multiple charges during a recent angler compliance operation on the Bow River near Bearspaw Dam, in Rocky View County just northwest of Calgary.
According to a June 2 update from Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement, one angler was seen using a set line—a method often associated with bait fishing. Officers confirmed the individual was using worms, which are classified as a prohibited bait under Alberta’s fishing regulations.
Steps from the chucks: New $330M hotel coming to Stampede Park
Airdrie residents hosting out-of-town guests for Stampede, concerts, or conventions may soon have a new option just steps from the chucks.
The Calgary Stampede and Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) have signed a $330-million agreement with Alberta-based developer Truman to build a 13-storey hotel at the west entrance of the park.
According to the partners, it will be the first full-service, convention-oriented hotel constructed in Calgary's downtown in 25 years.
Electrical work to shutter Airdrie Urgent Care overnight Tuesday
Airdrie’s Urgent Care Centre will be temporarily closed overnight tonight due to scheduled electrical upgrades.
Alberta Health Services confirmed the facility, located within the Airdrie Community Health Centre, will close at 8 p.m. on June 3 and reopen at 7 a.m. on June 4.
Nursing staff will remain on site during the outage to assist with patient redirection and access to EMS.
Alberta Health Services provides update on Airdrie Urgent Care renovations
Alberta Health Services (AHS) has provided an update on the ongoing renovations taking place at Airdrie Urgent Care Centre (AUCC).
AHS wrote to DiscoverAirdrie, sharing that they are pleased to see the expansion of the Airdrie Community Health Centre is progressing and creating a larger, thoughtfully designed environment to enhance healthcare services for the growing community.
"For the development of the Airdrie Community Health Centre optimization project, phase 1 was completed and opened to the public in January 2025."
Experiential Learning Week a Hit at Northcott Prairie School
Last week, Northcott Prairie School held its first annual Experiential Learning Week (ELW) for students in grades seven and eight.
Devon Sawby, principal of the school, shared that week week-long event allowed students will delve into various careers and pathways.
"Students had the opportunity to talk with experts, having them come into our building, sometimes going to visit them. There were multiple avenues of exploring that career or industry that they (the students) were interested in."
Emergency training exercise planned for Mountain View County
If you are travelling near Didsbury and Olds on June 5, be on the lookout for the Emergency Management Functional Exercise.
Shelley French, Head of Communications at Mountain View County, explained that there is a Mountain View Regional Emergency Management Agency that conducts these exercises every four years.
The agency includes the Town of Olds, the Town of Didsbury, the Town of Carstairs, the Town of Sundre, the Village of Cremona, and Mountain View County.
Liberal government legislation to further tighten Canada-U.S. border expected today
Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree is expected to introduce a bill today spelling out the federal government's next steps on border security.
The recent throne speech promised legislation to bolster security at Canada's borders and new tools for police and intelligence agencies to help them stop the flow of deadly fentanyl and its precursors.
The government also said the Canada Border Services Agency will be given new powers to examine goods destined for export to prevent the movement of illegal and stolen products, including cars.
