The province has announced increased infrastructure funding for the 2025-26 fiscal year. This funding will come through the Local Government Fiscal Framework (LGFF), introduced in Budget 2024.

According to the province, Airdrie's capital funding allocation 2024 is $8,022,724, which will increase to $9,323,778 in 2025.

Last week, Rocky View County convened the General Meeting of Alberta's South Central Rural Municipalities (District 2), bringing together representatives to discuss critical resolutions impacting rural communities.

This meeting sets the stage for the upcoming RMA Fall Convention in November, where these discussions will be highly significant.

After a stunning display of the northern lights over Airdrie’s night sky, residents may have another opportunity to witness the aurora borealis.

HWN Energy Ltd. has confirmed that the emergency response to a well control incident approximately eight kilometres north of Cochrane has been lifted.

The Airdrie chapter of the Alberta Pound and Rescue Centre (APARC) has provided an update on the five puppies that had previously been found abandoned in a dumpster in Airdrie.

Tara Wingenbach, the animal service coordinator with APARC, noted that since the center received them on September 24, they were severely emaciated.

An Airdrie resident and local business owner faces several charges following a major investigation into stolen vehicles sold through his Calgary-based dealership.

On August 28, the RCMP Auto Theft Unit, with the assistance of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team, Airdrie RCMP, and Calgary Police Service, executed search warrants at three locations in Calgary and Airdrie, including two connected to International Motor Cars owned by 26-year-old Brooks Stella.

Two more pedestrian bridges (replacing older ones) at Nose Creek Park are now mostly complete and open to the public.

Ryan Couillard, a Project Manager for the City of Airdrie who spoke with DiscoverAirdrie explained the replacement projects opened up to the public at the beginning of the month, but more work is yet to be completed on them.

"We still have some landscaping work that needs to happen off the edge of the pathways on both of the bridges, but they will remain open."

Last week was busy for Miss Rodeo Airdrie 2024 Kyla Lightfoot as she took in the 2025 Miss Rodeo Canada competition.

The event was held in Edmonton as the 50th annual Canadian Finals Rodeo was also taking place.

Lightfoot talked about the different components she was able to watch from the sideline during her time at the competition.

The Rocky View Schools Advocacy Committee provided an update to the Board of Trustees regarding the work being done to share and advance the Board’s advocacy priorities.

This year's focus is on addressing the need for both space and support for students.

"The Board’s thoughtfully developed advocacy priorities are specific areas where increased government support is essential to address critical needs that impact the educational experience and outcomes of our students," stated RVS's "The Brief".

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre was not allowed to speak in the House of Commons Tuesday as his public feud with Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly spilled into a second day.

House Speaker Greg Fergus delivered the penalty to Poilievre in the morning, a day after he asked the leader of the opposition to withdraw a remark accusing Joly of pandering to supporters of the terrorist organization Hamas.
