Virtual MD cuts emergency room visits, study finds

According to Alberta Health Services (AHS), a recent study shows that their Virtual MD service is effective for patient care.

Virtual MD was introduced in 2022 to lower the number of potentially needless ER visits. A registered nurse or clinical staff member conducts an examination when Albertans call Health Link 811 to ascertain whether they require additional evaluation from a doctor. The Virtual MD program refers an average of 125 Health Link callers to a doctor every day.

Airdrie RCMP: Previously missing woman located safe

The Airdrie RCMP say a woman reported missing last week has been located safe.

She was last seen in Airdrie on July 2, and police had reason to believe she may have travelled to Salmo, British Columbia.

In an update Sunday, RCMP confirmed she had been found and thanked the public and media for their help.

RCMP confirm fatality on Highway 9 collision near Irricana

A 51-year-old man from Strathmore is dead after a two-vehicle motor collision south of Irricana on Saturday.

According to police, at 5:43 p.m., Airdrie and Beiseker RCMP attended a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 9, three kilometres South of Irricana.

"Upon arrival, the driver and sole occupant of a Ford Mustang, a 51-year-old male resident of Strathmore, was deceased.  The driver of a Dodge 3500 truck, a 16-year-old female, and her three teenage passengers received non-life-threatening injuries," police stated.

Two Tie Down Roping Albertans could move onto finals at Calgary Stampede

Two Albertans are sitting in the top 3 of the aggregate in Tie Down Roping.

Kyle Lucas, hailing from Carstairs and Nanton's Logan Bird, are sitting in 2nd and 3rd place after 2 days of rodeo action in Pool A.

Lucas had a time of 8.2 seconds on Day 2 to move into 2nd in the aggregate, with Bird tying Lucas's time of 8.2 to move into 3rd place in the aggregate.

Only the top 3 times in the aggregate after Sunday's event move into the finals on Championship Sunday, July 13.

Update: Airdrie RCMP on scene of serious motor vehicle collision near Irricana

Airdrie RCMP and other emergency responders are no longer on the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 9 South of Irricana.

Traffic on Highway 9 between Highway 567 and Township Road 270 was being redirected while emergency workers responded and police investigated.
