Manitoba Underground Opera (MUO) proudly presents weird and wonderful ways of sharing the grand art form. 

Their current season, titled Odyssey2023, expands their musical endeavours, beginning with the world premiere of “The Mansplaining Division." 

This Wednesday and Friday at 7:30 at the Winnipeg Art Gallery the Winnipeg Chamber Music Society (WCMS) will be holding their annual mini concert festival that they call Mozart and More. Consisting of music of Mozart, these performances will also feature music of Kodaly, Shostakovich, Brahms and Canadian composer Michael Oesterle.

The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra has only two concerts left in this, their golden anniversary season.  

The auspicious year marks not only 5 decades of outstanding musicianship and artistry but also twenty years under the steady, shrewd leadership of managing director Vicki Young – who has announced her retirement coinciding with the conclusion of the concert season.   

This week, Dry Cold Productions is giving everyone the opportunity to attend The Prom.  

Taking place at the Manitoba Theatre for Young People Mainstage, the acclaimed musical makes its Canadian premiere in Winnipeg. 

The hazy sky you are noticing today is the result of forest fires in western Canada.

That is according to Natalie Hasell, Meteorologist with Environment Canada. Hasell says there are fires burning out of control in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories and even parts of Manitoba. She notes unfortunately the wind flow is such that the smoke from the fires is making its way into Manitoba.

This weekend, a recital presents attendees the opportunity to discover rarely heard, richly crafted art songs. 

“Liubov- Ukrainian Art Songs of the Heart and Soul” draws on a treasure trove of music assembled as part of the Ukrainian Art Song Project (UASP).  

There are plenty of ways to celebrate 75 years of music-making with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra this weekend.

For more than 50 years, Winnipeg-based artist Jordan van Sewell has been creating sculptures that reflect the world around him as seen through his own quirky, thought-provoking and, often, humorous lens.  

His sculptures have been sold around the world and can be seen in some of the most prestigious galleries and private collections.  

On Saturday, May 13, the Pulse Gallery in the Johnston Terminal at the Forks, unveils the latest collection from this artistic icon.  

After 20 years of seeing each other at a number of different art shows, four women have become friends and banded together to show their work as one group.

Ida Mackenzie, Jo Smoley, Winona Kling and Judy Sutton first met at the Art Rocks art show in East St. Paul. Since then, they have seen each other at other shows and through art groups getting to know each other, complimenting one another on their art and forming a solid friendship.

Most of them started getting involved with art when they were children or teenagers, each having practiced in many mediums.
