Negotiations between Teachers’ union and government fail, job action to resume Friday
The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation says an impasse has been reached and as a result, the union will resume job action on Friday following a breakdown in negotiations with the province.
Friday’s job action includes a province-wide withdrawal of noon-hour supervision and one-day rotating strikes.
Swift Current area schools will not be affected by Friday’s one-day strike.
STF announces next round of strikes
The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) has given 48-hour notice for their next strike action.
The most recent round of rotating strikes won’t affect Estevan area schools, but will impact 4,300 teachers and approximately 65,300 students in the province.
On Wednesday, February 7 the following teachers’ local associations will be on strike.

The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) has given 48-hour notice for their next strike action.
The most recent round of rotating strikes won’t affect schools in southwest Saskatchewan, but will impact 4,300 teachers and approximately 65,300 students in the province.
On Wednesday, February 7 the following teachers’ local associations will be on strike.

Greg Lawrence resigns from Sask. Party as police investigate ‘historical complaints’
Greg Lawrence has resigned as a member of the Saskatchewan Party caucus.
‘His decision comes as an active police investigation is occurring into historical complaints unrelated to his duties as an MLA for Moose Jaw Wakamow,’ said a prepared release from the Government Caucus Office.
The release went on to say Lawrence is ‘fully cooperating with the police investigation.’
The nature of the allegations are unknown at this time.
Lawrence, who will not be seeking reelection, will sit as an independent in the Legislature.

Horizon schools walk out on Thursday; Humboldt Catholic schools remain open
The series of rotating walkouts announced by the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation will have different impacts for students in Humboldt today.
Students who attend St. Augustine or St. Dominic Schools in Humboldt will still be in class and all buses for the two schools will be running. Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools confirmed that teachers in the Catholic schools in Humboldt are members of the Saskatoon Teachers' Association, and not the Horizon Teachers' Association, who are among the first organizations designation for rotating walkouts.
More cold weather records broken Sunday
Five more cold weather records were shattered Sunday, bringing the total records broken over the week in southern Saskatchewan to at least 15.
Assiniboia’s new record for January 14 is -37.7°C, which broke the 15-year-old record of -33°C set in 2009.
At the Kindersley Airport weather station, the mercury dropped to -43.5°C surpassing the 2020 record of -40°C.
City offers discount on portion of property tax
While property taxes are on the rise in Moose Jaw there's still an opportunity to save money on your tax bill.
Residents can receive a discount on the municipal portion of their property tax for payments made between January 1, 2024, and March 31, 2024, unless they're enrolled in the Tax Installment Payment Plan Service (TIPPS).
Payments can be made in person at City Hall, by cheque, at your bank or on the city's website.
The city will not be mailing out discount notification letters to residents.
Harvest remains ahead of five-year and 10-year average across Saskatchewan
Harvest is in high gear across the province and ahead of both the five-year and 10-year averages.
Saskatchewan producers as a whole are 33 per cent complete harvest, ahead of the five-year average of 23 per cent and the 10-year average of 20 per cent, according to the most recent crop report released by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Producers in the southwest are leading the province this harvest with 60 per cent of the harvest completed. Closer to home, farmers in the Moose Jaw area are 37 per cent complete.
