Moose Jaw breaks 45-year-old cold weather record

With a low temperature of -35.5°C in Moose Jaw this morning, a 45-year-old cold weather record was broken.

"The old record was -33.3°C set in 1977, with records going back to 1943," said Terri Lang, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Thankfully, temperatures will start to improve this afternoon with seasonal temperatures throughout the remainder of the week.

Mercury nosedives as brutal cold grips Moose Jaw and area

A brutally cold airmass has descended upon Moose Jaw and south central Saskatchewan sending the mercury plummeting to bone-chilling temperatures.

Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasts that the temperature in Moose Jaw will slide to -23°C this afternoon, before dropping to -35°C overnight feeling closer to -49 when the wind chill is factored in.

Bivalent COVID-19 vaccine available

Moderna's bivalent vaccine will be available starting Thursday, September 29 for Saskatchewan residents 18 years and older.

Residents can book a shot through the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) or at participating pharmacies.

It's recommended that eligible residents receive the Moderna bivalent booster dose at least four months following their last COVID-19 vaccination, regardless of the number of COVID-19 doses received to date.
