Martens Mutterings: The Rural Road Wave

We are in the midst of the Seed and Feed promotion here at Golden West, where we bring meals out to lucky farm crews while they continue to work on seeding. It's a small thing that we can do here at the station to feed the people that put food on our tables. But there is one thing that, whether it be a meal delivery, or travelling to a location outside of town for any other purpose, always stays true and is a necessity when driving: the wave.

Preserving an example of community cooperation: The St. Joachim Parish

Efforts are being made to preserve a historical building in La Broquerie, MB.

The St. Joachim Parish received historical status in 2000. While there are many older structures across Manitoba, very few have historical status, especially in the southeast. Lucien Grenier, a member of the church’s financial committee, shares that such status is remarkable not only to the people in the municipality or town of La Broquerie, but to anyone with a family history of immigration to Canada.

90 Hole Golf Marathon returns to support youth mentorship

Golfers in Portage la Prairie are gearing up for a long but rewarding day on the green this June as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Plains brings back a unique and endurance-testing event: the Ultimate 90 Hole Golf Marathon.

Set for Thursday, June 19, 2025 at the Portage Golf Course, the event invites players to take on 90 holes of golf in support of youth mentorship programs in the community. It will go ahead rain or shine, and follows a successful return of the fundraiser in 2024 to mark the organization's 50th anniversary.

Ritchot launches Paint the Rink event to mark end of winter sports season

The R.M. of Ritchot is introducing a new community event called Paint the Rink, set to take place at the St. Adolphe Arena on May 26. Inspired by similar initiatives in the NHL and other Manitoba communities, the event invites residents to transform the ice surface into a massive canvas before it is removed for the season.
