Community spirit shine at Heritage Village weekend in Midale

The sights, sounds, and spirit of prairie life from decades past were on full display over the weekend at the annual Threshing Days in Midale, hosted by the Souris Valley Antique Association and Midale Museum.

The weekend kicked off with a popular pancake breakfast on Main Street, where visitors gathered before hopping on the “people mover” shuttle to the Heritage Village grounds. From there, the day unfolded with a packed schedule of hands-on demonstrations, heritage tours, and family activities.

Meals, counselling, connection: Youth to get support through upcoming BBQ

This Wednesday, grabbing a hot dog from the KPMG Taste of Summer Charity BBQ will help support local youth.

All proceeds raised during the BBQ will go towards Youth For Christ (YFC) Steinbach, which says more than 500 different kids have walked through its doors since January this year.

YFC Steinbach's role in the community

"Our youth have wild lives at times and not always a place to share what's going on," says Ashley Reimer, ministry director with the organization.

Weyburn Dodge has made some changes to their 3rd annual Mopar Madness event this year, now calling it 'Mopar Madness & Friends' because they're welcoming owners of all makes and models to bring their vehicles down to show off throughout the event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on August 9th.

Under the Hood of this 400,000 kilometre truck full of memories, love, and adventure

Almost everyone regrets selling at least one vehicle they had as a teenager.

Even if it wasn't particularly good, well-kept, or reliable, the memories made and the experiences had make the heart grow fond for an old hatchback or sedan. In the case of Stuart Lawrence, he has no such feelings, as he has managed to hold onto his 1981 GMC Sierra that he bought as a teenager and has kept in good, well-kept, and reliable condition.

Author Andrew Unger shares why Mennonite family books still matter

In many Mennonite households, family history isn't just passed down in stories — it's printed and bound in detailed genealogy books, documenting generations of relatives and tracing back to the community’s earliest settlers.

These thick volumes, often hard-covered and beautifully bound, became common between the 1970s and 1990s. For author and satirist Andrew Unger of Steinbach, the books reflect a deep cultural value Mennonites place on storytelling and family connection.

Soft or crunchy? Rollkuchen debate heats up with Hilda Gerbrandt’s Mennonite treats

When Hilda Gerbrandt walks into the studio with a plate of fresh Rollkuchen, we pay attention. A regular Eagle 93.5 morning show guest, Gerbrandt brought not one, but two kinds of the beloved Mennonite treat for her latest appearance, including the peach-filled Folla Rollkuchen that had everyone buzzing.

“It's something I enjoy. It's something about that my mom taught me. And I think when you have these good childhood memories of mom’s baking or cooking and so on like it's a comfort.” - Hilda Gerbandt, sharing memories of making Rollkuchen with her Mom.
