The calendar may say Spring, but some areas of the Prairies are seeing snow

The occasional spring snowfall is not unusual for Western Canada, bringing additional moisture prior to seeding.

Parts of southern Alberta including areas around Calgary, Olds, Airdrie, Beiseker and Three Hills received another blast of winter over the weekend, with more snow overnight making travel challenging.

Meteorologist Drew Lerner with World Weather Inc says a significant snowstorm is going to continue to occur in the southeast part of Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba today with some other areas seeing some light snow or rain.

Planned power outages for Watrous and Vonda

SaskPower announces a couple of planned power outages in the coming days.

A planned outage is scheduled on April 24 from 1:30 to 2:30 pm affecting customers in Watrous on the 200 - 400 blocks of 7th Ave. W (even numbers), 8th Ave. W (odd numbers), and 700 block od 1st St. W (odd numbers)

As well, a planned power outage is announced for the town of Vonda and area on April 27. The outage will take place from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The outage will affect all customers in the town of Vonda and rural areas to the north and south.

Water Security Agency accepting applicants for Agricultural Water Management Fund

Applications are now available for the Agricultural Water Management Fund from the Water Security Agency. 

Agricultural producers along with local government receive assistance to develop water management projects thanks to the fund.  

Since 2022, the fund has provided over $2 million for 93 projects in Saskatchewan. 

Poilievre vows not to impose a home equity tax as Liberals, NDP talk health care

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is claiming the Liberals will impose a tax on Canadians' home equity if they're re-elected as the federal election campaign enters its final week.

The last day of advance voting in the general election saw federal leaders scattered across the country, pitching plans on homebuilding and health care.

Poilievre was in Toronto Monday afternoon speaking to an audience with CARP, the Canadian Association of Retired Persons. He was asked whether he would put any taxes on equity saved in Canadians' homes.

Humboldt Broncos looking to fill spring camp roster

With the Humboldt Broncos Spring Camp just around the corner, the hockey club is looking to fill out it's roster for the weekend. 

The team says there forward and defence spots open for both the 2010-11 and the 2006-09 group.

Once the roster is filled for spring camp, the Broncos won't accept any additional entries. 

Woman killed vehicle-pedestrian collision on Highway 11

A 35-year old woman was killed on Sunday night on Highway 11 near the junction of Highway 2 by Prince Albert after she was struck by a vehicle.

RCMP said they received multiple reports of a person in the middle of the highway which was followed up by a report of a pedestrian struck by an SUV.

The woman from Patuanak was declared deceased at the scene. 

The 65-year old female driver of the SUV and an adult female passenger from Saskatoon didn't receive any injuries. 

Roadways in the area were blocked off during the investigation but have since reopened. 

Friday saw record number of early voters, Monday is last chance to visit advanced polls

Elections Canada is expecting a significant voter-turnout this federal election after a record-breaking number of people showed up to the polls on Friday.

Marie-France Kenny with Elections Canada says the first day of advanced polling saw two million Canadians line up. This is an increase of 36 per cent, or 1.2 million voters, from the last federal election. Kenny assures that if you still hope to cast your ballot early, there are several ways to do so.

The debate on Thursday featured representatives from the Liberal, Conservative, NDP, Green, and Bloc Québécois parties.
