UPDATE: Pickup takes out light pole on 5th St SE & Queen
Two vehicles were involved in what turned out to be a collision followed by one of them, a pickup, driving onto the lawn of a home and into a hydro pole at the corner of 5th Street SE and Queen Avenue.

PCI Saints volleyball team triumphs at Morden tournament
The Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) Saints varsity girls volleyball team celebrated a significant victory at a recent tournament in Morden, securing the championship title against three rival teams: Morden, Miami, and Carmen. After finishing second in the round-robin stage, the Saints fought their way to the finals, where they clinched the win, marking a pivotal moment for the team.

Construction seeing final touches on Saskatchewan Ave W
This morning, most of the traffic cones used during construction of the rejuvenation project on Saskatchewan Avenue West are now gone! That clearly indicates that construction is winding down in this part of Portage la Prairie.

Thanksgiving tradition continues: Spruce Drive Farms and local growers provide free vegetables
Once again, after eight years, Mark Peters who owns Spruce Drive Farms is helping everyone get ready for Thanksgiving dinner on Monday by giving back as he likewise gives thanks. A vegetable giveaway takes place at the Prairie Alliance Church parking lot in the west end of Portage la Prairie this Saturday (October 12).

Carman Dufferin FD responds to Wednesday forage harvester fire
A forage harvester sustained substantial damage after a fire Tuesday afternoon.
Carman Dufferin Fire Department (CDFD) responded to the call at 2:58 p.m., and due to the location and potential to spread into the corn field the equipment was working in, St. Claude Fire Department was also requested to assist.
Crews arrived and extinguished the fire before it was able to spread beyond the immediate area around the harvester.
The department was called out again around 6:33 p.m. last night for a hydro lines related call.
Brake for Breakfast has started
The Brake for Breakfast is on at Sobey's in Portage la Prairie. The event aims to raise money and food for the breakfast program in the Portage la Prairie School Division.

Youth Hub in Portage to address barriers in mental health and addictions
A significant announcement for the community has been made, one that has been in the works for quite some time. The Portage Community Revitalization Corporation (PCRC) first wrote a grant in 2021, and several more since then, to establish a youth hub. Executive Director Mari Kozar explains that the goal is to break down known barriers for youth.
The location is 1200 Saskatchewan Avenue W, at the corner of 12th Street NW.
Portage firefighters respond to serious crash Wednesday
At 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, emergency crews were sent to a collision involving a motorcycle and car at Highways 430 and 26 intersections.
Portage la Prarie firefighters posted on Facebook saying the crash resulted in one patient being transported by STARS air ambulance.
As a result of the incident, the intersection was closed for some time.
No further information was provided.
Nelson Little's hit song receives standing ovation at Manitoba Legislature
A Portage la Prairie musician who admittedly doesn't get too involved with politics recently found himself in the hallowed halls of the Manitoba legislature.
Nelson Little, who has been "Making it Happen" all year was recognized this week in Winnipeg and it was a big honour for Little. The inspiring tune that was co-written with a couple of other Portagers, Dave Rodgers and Dave Wasyliw.
