Wendell Keeler honoured for 50 years with Portage Legion
During the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 65's annual general meeting last week in Portage la Prairie, Wendell Keeler was honoured for 50 years of service as a Legion member.
Keeler shared what earned him the recognition.
"I got my 50-year pin for being a member of the Legion and I started out in 1975. My dad got me to sign up for the Legion. It feels great. It's something that you don't know if you're ever going to have the chance to accomplish or not."
RCMP confirm tragic end to search for missing boy in Shamattawa, Man.
The search for six-year-old Johnson Redhead has come to a heartbreaking end.
"It is with great sadness that we share the following information on the search for Johnson Redhead," the Manitoba RCMP said in a news release late Sunday evening. RCMP say that the young boy's body was found at around 7:45 p.m. in a marshy area, approximately 3.5 kilometres from the school where he was last seen.

6-year-old girl missing near Burns Lake, B.C., since Thursday found safe
A 6-year-old girl who had been missing from her community in north-central British Columbia since Thursday has been found safe.
Resources from across the province were enlisted in the search to find the child who lives in a small community not far from Burns Lake.
The girl, who is on the autism spectrum and non-verbal, was found on Sunday night around 6 p.m.

Manitoba harvest now 55% complete
With recent rains in the area, many farmers have experienced a delay in harvest activity.
The latest crop report shows precipitation for the past week ranged from 0 mm to 24.2 mm, with most of the rain reported in the Central and Southwest regions. The most precipitation 24.2 mm was reported at Windygates.
Manitoba Agriculture reports the provincial harvest is now 55 per cent complete with the Central Region leading the way at 68 per cent.

Terriers take down Titans in a shootout
Another tight game went down between the Portage Terriers and Neepawa Titans in the second game of a season-opening home-and-home series. This time it was Portage coming out on top 3-2 in a shootout.

After 20 years and on its 14th build, Habitat for Humanity in Portage la Prairie has continued to provide homes for those who may otherwise have been unable to become homeowners. Their motto is it's a hand-up; not a hand-out.
