Advance polls open this weekend
Manitobans can begin heading to the polls on Saturday, ahead of the Oct. 3 provincial election.
Advance voting runs for eight days, from Saturday, Sept. 23 until Saturday, Sept. 30. During advance voting, Manitobans can vote at any one of 300 advance polling locations in the province. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday with some exceptions.
There are over 300 advance voting locations throughout the province including every local election office.
B.C. region calls in Samaritan's Purse for assistance in wildfire relief
Samaritan’s Purse is helping residents who were forced to flee for their lives from catastrophic wildfires that ravaged B.C.’s Shuswap region.
At the request of the region’s emergency operations center, the Christian disaster relief organization is sending staff and a convoy of disaster relief vehicles and equipment to clean up damaged properties and search for anything that survived the flames.
Almost 180 homes were damaged or destroyed by the wildfires. At one point, more than 10,000 residents were evacuated from Scotch Creek and the Little Shuswap First Nation.

1 person in hospital following early morning shooting
A Winnipeg man is recovering in hospital following a shooting in the early morning hours.
The Winnipeg Police Service says that on September 9, 2023, at approximately 5:40 a.m., General Patrol officers responded to the report of shots fired in the 600 block of Furby Street.
As a result of the incident, police have located damage to a residence, including an injured male who has been transported to hospital. He is in stable condition.
The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.
Police make arrest in 'multiple suspicious circumstances involving explosive devices'
A Winnipeg man is in custody after police say they believe he discarded and detonated multiple explosive devices at a property in Winnipeg's Westwood community over a two-month period.
The Winnipeg Police Service says in a release that they were called to the property in the 100 block of Wordsworth Way multiple times between June 21 and August 21, 2023.
New single drops from youth band, planetboom
The dynamic, multicultural youth ministry of Planetshakers Church, planetboom, is releasing a brand new single today, called “I Was Made For This - Demo.”
The new studio recording was produced by creative director Josh Ham, who also co-wrote the song with fellow planetboom worship leader Noah Walker, who is the featured vocalist on the track.

Legendary country music producer Tony Brown has teamed up with an array of award-winning artists for a new album paying tribute to beloved Christian songwriters, Bill and Gloria Gaither.
The 10-song collection, simply called Gaither Tribute, was released on August 25. It features Gaither compositions reinterpreted by artists, including Cece Winans, Alabama featuring The Oak Ridge Boys, Reba and Susie McEntire with Sonya and Becky Isaacs, Josh Turner, Jamey Johnson, Ronnie Dunn, Ronnie Milsap, Lee Ann Womack, The SteelDrivers, Hillary Scott and The Scott Family.
