"Third winter" arrives with ample snow and challenging driving conditions Friday

At this point, all you really can do is make a joke of it, and with that in mind, third winter arrived last night, with snowfall finally starting to accumulate throughout Southern Manitoba. All Watches and Warnings have ended, but light snow and breezy conditions are expected throughout Friday morning and into the afternoon.

No matter how you feel about it, another dose of Winter is coming as Snowfall Warnings continue

Snowfall Warnings continue Thursday morning for almost all of Southern Manitoba, with a widespread 10 to 20 cm expected today through Friday morning. The slow-moving disturbance, which impacted southeastern Saskatchewan yesterday, will pull another wave of snow into our region today, with moderate to heavy snow developing this morning and lasting throughout the day, and overnight into Friday morning.

Heavy, wet snow, gusty winds and sloppy conditions ahead with snowstorm impacts beginning

Wintry impacts begin today across much of Southern Manitoba as a strong Colorado low brings substantial snowfall, strong winds and sloppy conditions between now and Friday night.

A Special Weather Statement is now once again in effect for the Portage la Prairie, Central Plains, Red River Valley and Southeastern Manitoba, with those regions expected to be spared the worst conditions from round one today. Snowfall and Winter Storm Warnings are in place for all of Western Manitoba where 15 to 40 cm is possible by Friday night, along with gusty winds up to 70 km/h.

UPDATE - Snowfall Warning issued with 10-20cms of heavy, wet snow possible Thursday

Updated at 4:32 p.m. Wednesday, April 19th 2023 - Environment Canada has issued Snowfall Warnings for essentially all of Southern Manitoba ahead of a second round of precipitation from a complex low pressure system impacting the province.

According to the forecaster, a widespread 10 to 20 cm will fall, with the slow-moving disturbance pulling another wave of snow into the region tomorrow.

UPDATE - Winter Storm Watch ended, but snow and windy conditions still likely

Updated at 4:25 p.m. April 18th 2023 - Environment Canada has ended the Winter Storm Watch for the western Red River Valley, including for the communities of Morden, Carman, Winkler, Altona and Emerson, but according to CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner, that doesn't mean the impending arrival of a strong Colorado low won't lead to wintry impacts for the region.

Another Spring snow storm possible this week, but much remains uncertain

According to Environment Canada, a significant spring storm is set to impact portions of southern Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba on Tuesday night into Wednesday and possibly Thursday this week.

Special Weather Statements have been issued for all of Western Manitoba, as far east as the Pilot Mound and Manitou regions.
