Senior murdered in West End suite: WPS
Police are investigating after a 66-year-old man died from serious injuries inside a West End suite.
The Winnipeg Police Service says that on September 1, 2022, at 7:57 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residential building in the 600 block of Home Street for a report of a severely injured male that had been found inside a suite.
Upon arrival, officers located the male deceased. He has since been identified as Son Minh Nguyen, a 66-year-old male of Winnipeg, and his death is believed to be a homicide.
3 fatal collisions within 8 hours on Manitoba highways: RCMP
September began with tragedy on Manitoba highways this week with three separate fatal collisions occurring within a matter of hours.
The Manitoba RCMP says the first collision occurred on September 1, 2022, at approximately 2:50 p.m. near Dauphin, Man. Dauphin RCMP responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Road 109 W, located one kilometre north of Highway 5.
A pickup truck was travelling northbound on Road 109 W when it lost control, entered the ditch and rolled.
Kayaker survives close call after struck by boat on Red River
Police in Winnipeg are reminding the public of safe boating practices ahead of the long weekend after a kayaker was struck by a boat last weekend.
The Winnipeg Police Service says that around 9:45 p.m. on August 27 they were called to the Tache Public Dock, where Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service members were already on scene, tending to an injured male.
A 41-year-old male was transported to hospital in stable condition suffering a head injury.
Officers were able to recover a heavily damaged kayak and personal property a distance away on the water.
Pedestrian killed after being struck by car
A man in his 20s is dead after he was struck by a vehicle while while walking along the highway in Manitoba's Parkland region.
The Manitoba RCMP says that members from the Dauphin detachment were called just after 10 p.m. on Aug. 31 for a report of a vehicle-pedestrian collision on Highway 5, near Road 115 W, located seven kilometres west of Dauphin.

School zone speed limits back in effect Thursday
Winnipeg drivers are reminded to take it easy as school zone speed limits come back into effect on September 1.
While kids don't begin the return to the classroom until next week school zone speed limits begin at 7 a.m. on September 1.
School zones are marked with a yellow sign on top of a white sign showing a speed limit of 30 km/h.
The reduced speed is in effect from 7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday - Friday and remains in effect through the end of June.
Going 15 km/h over the speed limit in a school zone will cost you $250, according to the WPS.
Estevan Humane Society 'ups the ante' with this year's Duck Derby
The Estevan Humane Society is raising the stakes in this year's Annual Judy Martin Memorial Duck Derby.
The non-profit organization runs a yearly 'duck derby' where toy ducks, bought by people in the community, are dropped into the Souris River. The first duck to cross the finish line yields a cash prize for its owner worth half the money raised.
Board of Directors President Tayja Lakusta joined Lyle McGillivray on the Big Breakfast Show, and said that there could be a nice chunk of change for this year's winner.

Stretch of Fermor speed limit dropping to 60 km/h
Motorists on a busy Winnipeg roadway should be aware of a big speed limit change coming soon.
The City of Winnipeg is lowering the speed limit along Fermor Ave. from Dunkirk. Dr. to St. Mary's Rd. to 60 km/h, down from the current 70 km/h.
The change comes after St. Vital councillor Brian Mayes put forward a motion calling for the change in the winter. At the time, Mayes said that residents wanted the change for safety reasons.
That stretch of Fermor Ave. passes by Glenlawn Collegiate, a YMCA, as well as the St. Vital library.
Man taken to hospital in critical condition after officer involved shooting
The province's police watchdog is investigating after Winnipeg police shot a man early Saturday morning.
The Winnipeg Police Service says that on August 27, 2022 shortly after 2:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service became involved in an officer involved shooting in the Windsor Park neighborhood.
An adult male was transported to hospital in critical condition.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has been notified and has assumed responsibility for the investigation.
