Resident jumps from second storey window to escape blaze

Two people are recovering after a daring escape from a house fire in Winnipeg this week.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says in a release that crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house in the 400 block of Pritchard Avenue on Thursday afternoon just after 12:30.

When crews arrived on the scene they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 1:04 p.m.

Police looking for tips on vandal who hit church and several businesses with 'hateful messages'

Police are re-releasing video and images of a suspect who left a string of hate-filled messages across several buildings in Winnipeg.

The suspect spray-painted 10 buildings in the early morning hours of July 22, 2021. Police released images and footage at that time but still have not located the suspect.

The Major Crimes Unit, Hate Crimes investigators are again seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a male suspect responsible for these offences that occurred between midnight and 4:00 a.m on July 22, 2021.

No injuries in fire at downtown hotel

Everyone is safe following a fire Wednesday afternoon in downtown Winnipeg.

At 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey hotel in the 100 block of Garry Street.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke and flames coming from a window in the building. An offensive attacked was launched and the fire was declared under control at 5:07 p.m. Damage was mostly contained to the suite where the fire originated.

Police identify homicide victim, believe string of serious assaults connected

Police in Winnipeg are asking people who may have information regarding the city's latest homicide to come forward.

Yesterday, the Winnipeg Police Service released information about an adult female found deceased in an apartment in the 100 block of Jarvis Avenue at approximately 7:00 a.m. on August 22.

This suspicious death is now being investigated as a homicide, and the victim has been identified as 36-year-old Danielle Dawn Ballantyne of Winnipeg.

Young woman killed in collision near Russell

Police are continuing to investigate a collision which claimed the life of a 22-year-old woman in western Manitoba earlier this week.

The Manitoba RCMP says that officers from the Russell detachment were called to a two-vehicle collision on Aug. 21, at 10:45 p.m. The collision occurred on Highway 45 at the intersection with Road 151 W, three kilometres east of Angusville.

Woman dead and 3 injured in string of incidents in Point Douglas

The Winnipeg Police Service is investigating a number of serious incidents, including a suspicious death, all in the same area.

The WPS says they were called to an apartment block in the 100 block of Jarvis Ave. for a report of a deceased person just before 7 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 22.

The woman was transported to hospital from the building just off of Main St., where she was pronounced deceased.

Feel good watch: Elephant returns dropped shoe to child at zoo

An elephant never forgets, so the saying goes at least, and a family is sure to never forget their trip to a zoo recently.

A recent video has gone viral after a young child dropped one of their shoes into an elephant enclosure. The incident took place at a zoo in Shandong province in China, according to Indian Express.

While the family wasn't sure what to do, the sweet pachyderm knew exactly what to do. The elephant scooped up the tike's tiny shoe with its trunk and stretched out and placed it in the family's waiting hands.
