There's still time to get your poppy before Remembrance Day.
Poppy sales continue at major stores in Cochrane over the weekend, and there's bins located on the counters of most local businesses.
Legion president Brad Ross says the funds collected go a long way towards helping local veterans and their families. Some of it is provided to assist Command with larger programs.
He says the funds generated today are as important as they were to assist veterans from the great wars.

E-scooters soar past 10,000 rides in Cochrane this year
Bird Scooters has officially wrapped up its 2024 season of rentable electric scooters in Cochrane which saw over 10,000 rides this year.
Austin Spademan, head of government partnerships with Bird says Cochranites have really connected with the program over the past two seasons.
“This year in Cochrane has been fantastic by all measures, the amount of unique riders that were on the service this year is way up year over year by about 20 per cent.”
Team White looking a different result against Sweden
Team Canada White is looking for some redemption against Sweden in the semifinals of the U17 World Challenge.
Team White, which includes Cochrane player Riley Boychuk, beat Finland yesterday, 4-2, to advance to the semifinals. Game time is 1:30 p.m. MST.
Sweden beat Team White in a game that went into overtime to wrap up the preliminary round.
Canada Team Red faces the US in the other semifinal matchup.
The medals rounds follow tomorrow in Sarnia, ON.
Quaife scores OT winner, Rams here Saturday
The Cochrane Generals staged a comeback win in an overtime thriller against the High River Flyers in a rare Thursday night road game.
Caden Stephenson tied it up 2-2 midway through the second and after a scoreless third period, Gens captain James Quaife scored the winner with 54 seconds remaining in overtime.
The win lifts the Gens to lone possession of fourth place in the HJHL's south division.
The Gens are back in action tonight at High River's Bob Snodgrass Arena at 8 p.m.
Rising domestic violence cases highlights need for awareness in Cochrane
In 2023, Cochrane RCMP members investigated nearly 900 incidents of family violence.
Insp. Dave Brunner says that as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, their goal is to educate and inform the community about the harsh realities of domestic violence.
"So what we want to do is promote stable bonds between parents and children, foster safe relationships between intimate partners and support mental health and resilience in everyone."
Canada’s unemployment rate holds steady at 6.5% in October, economy adds 15,000 jobs
Canada’s unemployment rate held steady at 6.5 per cent last month as hiring remained weak across the economy.
Statistics Canada’s labour force survey on Friday said employment rose by a modest 15,000 jobs in October.
Business, building and support services saw the largest gain in employment.
Meanwhile, finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing experienced the largest decline.
Many economists see weakness in the job market continuing in the short term, before the Bank of Canada’s interest rate cuts spark a rebound in economic growth next year.
