Dangerous predator believed to be on the loose north of Cochrane

A rural resident less than 20 kilometres north of Cochrane on Horse Creek Rd. is sounding the alarm over a dangerous predator she believes has been killing livestock in the area since the late summer.

From evidence she has collected, Kelly Holmes believes a large predator killed four full-size cows late this summer, and more recently, a Jersey cow and their rodeo horse Bucky. She believes there may have been another recent attack on a nearby ranch.

Saskatchewan Party wins fifth straight majority government, Scott Moe back as premier

Premier Scott Moe and the Saskatchewan Party won a fifth consecutive majority government Monday, losing in the big cities but retaining its iron grip on rural areas to secure victory.

Moe’s party was shut out by Carla Beck’s NDP in Regina and lost all but two seats in Saskatoon.

But it found enough support everywhere else to be elected in 35 seats in the 61-seat legislature, compared with 26 for the NDP.

"Thank you once again, Saskatchewan for placing your trust in our party, the Saskatchewan Party," Moe said as supporters in Shellbrook clapped and whooped.

Bloc Québécois set to begin talks to topple Liberal government after deadline passes

The Bloc Québécois is poised to begin talks with other parties to bring down the minority Liberal government, which has not met its deadline to pass two key bills.

Bloc Leader Yves-François Blanchet set the deadline last month, putting the Liberals on notice that to avoid an election "before Christmas" they must adopt a pair of private member's bills.

One of the Bloc bills aimed at safeguarding supply management in trade negotiations has the support of the government and is being studied by the Senate.

MLA Guthrie introducing bill during fall session

Infrastructure minister and local MLA is introducing one of the bills hitting the floor of the Legislative Assembly this week.

The fall session of the assembly begins at 1:30 p.m. this afternoon (Oct. 28) and will see the introduction and debate of 13 bills between now and the Christmas break.

Guthrie believes the one of most interest to Albertans are the major revisions to the Alberta Bill of Rights.

Banff RCMP investigate knife-wielding man

RCMP in Banff are searching for a suspect after a man with a knife chased two security guards overnight. 

Mounties responded to the report of a man armed with a knife displaying aggressive behavior at around 2:30 a.m. Monday. 

Police report two security guards were patrolling near the Banff Cascade Gardens when an aggressive man emerged from a wooded area.

Upon being informed that the individuals were security personnel, the suspect brandished a knife and demanded they "prove it" before chasing them.
