RCMP say disturbance on Stoney Nakoda led to seizure of firearms, arrest
A 41-year-old man from Mînî Thnî has been charged after RCMP seized multiple firearms and prohibited weapons following a disturbance on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation last week.
Cochrane RCMP say they were called to a residence on Aug. 22 after witnesses reported windows being smashed and a man armed with a gun.
Officers say the suspect fled before police arrived, but was located a short time later during a traffic stop and arrested without incident.
Shoot on the Bow continues to attract a list of who's who in darts
A record was set at the opening blind draw of the three-day Shoot on the Bow, held Aug. 22–24, as the event continues to attract a who’s who of Alberta’s darts community.
Tournament chair Ellison Smith said the women’s entries nearly doubled this year, while 60 men competed—12 more than last year.
Among them were some of the sport’s biggest names: Robbie Mills, ranked No. 1 in Alberta and No. 4 in Canada; Clint Clarkson, Canada’s top-ranked player and No. 3 in Alberta; Mike Dwyer, Alberta’s No. 2; and Brenda Moreau, Alberta’s top-ranked women’s player.
Five riders pedal north, backed by Cochrane SAR chase vehicle
Five cyclists are continuing their 1,800-kilometre trek from the U.S. border to the Northwest Territories to raise awareness and support for Alberta’s volunteer search and rescue teams.
Today, the riders are tackling steep climbs en route to Hinton. Andy Potton, SAR operations manager and a member of Cochrane SAR, is driving the chase vehicle and is currently out of regular communications while navigating the mountain elevations. He was last reported following the last rider up a massive hill this afternoon.

The non-profit is being recognized for its work in reconciliation, wellness, and building connections among Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
