Bragg Creek wastewater system returns to normal
The Bragg Creek wastewater system has returned to normal operating levels, following a period of high inflows that put significant strain on the system.
“Thanks to the community’s water conservation efforts, ongoing system monitoring, and the hard work of our crews, the system has had the time it needed to fully recover,” states a Rocky View County update on what's been a challenging situation for the hamlet.
Residents are being asked to increase water use gradually to avoid sudden surges on the system.
Quarterfinal showdown for Grizz - Lions tomorrow
After a solid season, everything is on the line Saturday for the Bow Valley Grizzlies men’s rugby team.
The Grizz are hosting the Division 2 quarterfinals against the Foothills Lions Aug. 23 at the Mitford pitch. Kickoff is at noon.
Coming off a bye, the Grizz dropped their final regular-season game to the Banff Bears, 37-20. The win secured Banff top spot in the Division 2 standings and reclaimed the Grizzly Bear Cup, which Bow Valley had held for the past two seasons.

Crown won't appeal hockey players' acquittals on sex assault charges: defence lawyer
The Crown will not appeal the acquittals of five former world junior hockey players after their high-profile sexual assault trial, one of the defence lawyers in the case said Thursday.
Daniel Brown, who represented Alex Formenton, said he has been informed of the prosecutors' decision. The Ministry of the Attorney General did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Formenton, Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, Dillon Dube and Callan Foote were all acquitted of sexual assault, and McLeod of a separate charge of being a party to the offence of sexual assault.
Air Canada ramping up operations to near full schedule by Friday
Air Canada says it expects to be operating close to its full network schedule by Friday.
The airline says it is continuing to ramp up its operations in a press release Thursday.
This comes after the airline reached a tentative deal with the union representing its flight attendants on Tuesday to end a strike that began on Saturday.
The strike disrupted the airline's operations, resulting in the cancellation of flights.
Mark Nasr, Air Canada's chief operations officer, said in the release that the airline is restoring operations ahead of its plan.

Premier Danielle Smith's government says it's reverting to its previous rules after critics from across the political spectrum accused it of dodging responsibility.

Classic cars to cruise back to Cochrane in September
Cochrane’s downtown will once again be filled with chrome, classics, and car lovers when the Cochrane Classic Car Club hosts its annual Fall Colours Car Show on Sunday, September 7th.
“This show is really a celebration of car nostalgia and car enthusiasts,” said Dwight Wilson, director of promotions for the club. “Last year, we actually had to turn away about 50 cars because we couldn’t fit them into the downtown area.”
The event draws vehicles from across southern Alberta, and beyond, with models ranging from the early 1900s to the 1990s.

Cochrane will host its first-ever Children’s Theatre Festival this Saturday (Aug. 23), an event organizers hope will become an annual tradition.
The festival is being presented by the newly formed Black Box Theatre Guild in conjunction with Take A Bow Community Theatre and Sleeping Giants Theatre and promises a day of interactive, family-friendly entertainment.
