Unspecified number of Liberal MPs set to confront Trudeau, ask him to step down
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will face down his own caucus members in a hotly anticipated meeting this morning, as several of them plan to try to convince him to step aside.
Rumours have circulated for weeks about an undisclosed number of Liberal MPs who have signed on to the effort to oust the prime minister in the hopes of improving the party's chances in the next election.
That promises to make the regular weekly caucus meeting on Parliament Hill extra tense, as Trudeau has showed no signs of stepping down from the top job.
Rally for Marni Fedeyko in Historic Downtown today
Former Cochrane mayor Judy Stewart is tired of what she says are tasteless political shenanigans against Town Councillor Marni Fedeyko.
She's asking residents to stand behind the town councillor at a rally today (Oct. 23) from 5 to 6 p.m. by the "Chicken Lady" in the heart of Historic Cochrane (1st St. W.).
"This will be a very calm and peaceful rally with no specific outcome other than raising public awareness that we've had enough," she says in her event posting.
She says she no longer has faith in any member of council except Fedeyko.
Ottawa remembers reservist killed in Parliament Hill attack one decade later
Ottawa marked the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attack on Parliament Hill Tuesday, but for the family of the reservist who was killed that day the memory is still raw.
"I can't believe it's been 10 years. It felt like it was yesterday," said Ephraim Cirillo after a private family ceremony held at the National War Memorial Tuesday morning.
Genung believes mid-sized cities mayors have ear of provincial gov't
MCMC chair Mayor Jeff Genung believes the mid-sized cities have successfully met their goal of being respected and heard by provincial government officials.
That includes establishing a strong rapport with Premier Danielle Smith.
Just last week during an MCMC meeting in St. Albert, they had an hour of her time. Genung says she's always engaging when discussing issues with municipal leaders.

Cochrane keen to benefit from new growth fund
Applications are being accepted until Nov. 29 for the long-hinted municipal growth and sustainability fund announced today by Municipal Affairs minister Ric McIver.
For some time, Mayor Jeff Genung has expressed excitement about the $60 million pool of infrastructure funding and spoke about it with Cochrane Now over the weekend in anticipation of the announcement.
Genung says it's a fund the town and other municipalities forming the Alberta Mid-sized Cities Mayors' Caucus have been seeking.
Date set for when Rocky View students return to class next fall
Rocky View Schools has established its 2025/26 school calendar.
It includes key dates people will want to keep in mind for their family planning.
The first day of class for students is on Sept. 2, immediately following Labour Day Monday (Sept. 1). Spring break runs from Apr. 3 to 13, 2026, and the last day of classes for students is June 26, 2026.
The calendar includes professional learning days for teachers and other staff.
There's a total of 182 instructional days.
Excitement builds for Cobras chance to reclaim championship
Excitement is building for a divisional football championship game being hosted by the Cochrane Cobras.
Kick-off is this Saturday (Oct. 26) at 1 p.m. following some tailgating in support of the storied team.
For those unable to attend, the game is being broadcast on Telus Optic TV, channel 1985.
For the Cochrane Cobras, it's a shot at reclaiming the Rocky View divisional championship that has alluded them for the past two seasons. Their opponents, the George McDougall Mustangs are in the hunt for a three-peat.
School bus slides into ditch near Cochrane, no injuries
No one was injured when a school bus went into the ditch near Cochrane this morning.
The bus entered the median on Hwy 1A and Lochend Rd Tuesday morning before children were picked up for school.
Cochrane RCMP confirmed there were no children on the bus when it went off the road.
