After 45 days of evidence and legal arguments the criminal trial of "Freedom Convoy" organizers Tamara Lich and Chris Barber is finally at an end.

A verdict could be as much as six months away.

"I don’t know in this moment when I will be in a position to give my decision," Justice Heather Perkins-McVey said Friday.

She said "it's a little daunting," given the unusually great volume of evidence and legal questions associated with the case. 

Five Cochrane Water Ninjas are forming almost half of Canada's junior lifesaving sports team heading to the Orange Cup in the Netherlands in December.

Jack Dunse, Alana Martens, Danica Fisher, Caebri Smith, and Aaron Swedlo were five of the 12 Canadians recently named to the elite team during the national championship in Victoria, B.C.

Glenbow needs a community association more now than ever, believes long-time resident Brian Winter.

He's put out the call to form an association for the 40-year-old neighbourhood that to his knowledge has never had one before. Winter and his wife Ginny had their pick of lots when they moved there from East Cochrane, 40 years ago.

Put a fork in it... this wildfire is done.

The Fallentimber wildfire, about 25 km west of Water Valley is official extinguished. It was held to 48.8 hectares.

Rain or shine, the semiannual plant sale fundraiser of the Cochrane & District Horticultural Society is being held this coming Sunday, Sept. 15 in front of the Cochrane Public Library, 405 Railway St. W. 

The runs from 1 to 3 p.m., and it's wise to show up early. Typically, people line up anxious for the sale to begin.

Like the spring, they'll have a series of canopy tents on site for the sale.

Air Canada and business leaders are asking Ottawa to be ready to intervene in labour talks with its pilots as time is running out before a potential shutdown, but so far the government has said the two sides need to work things out. 

Airline spokesman Christophe Hennebelle said Thursday that Air Canada is committed to negotiations, but it faces wage demands from the Air Line Pilots Association that it can't meet. 

"The issue is that we are faced with unreasonable wage demands that ALPA refuses to moderate.”

The Chinook Film Group's first film of its 20th season explores a topic that touches close to home.

"Thelma" tells the story of a senior who falls prey to a phone scam and follows the actions she takes to recover the funds.

It's in Cochrane for one night only at the Cochrane Movie House on Sept. 18.

Thelma is a 93-year-old woman who lives alone and receives a phone call out of the blue from a scammer claiming her grandson has been arrested. To set him free, she has to fork out $10,000, and does. 

Early Wednesday morning, RCMP responded to a fire on the side of the road in Rocky View County.

The fire was along Township Road 233 near Highway 791 and once the fire was extinguished, a deceased person was discovered.

“RCMP is seeking assistance from anyone who may have dash camera footage and was in this area between 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.,” reads a release from the RCMP.
