Free shredding event hits Cochrane this month
Cochrane residents and businesses looking to shred confidential documents can do so at a free event on September 21.
The Cochrane Eco Centre is hosting free on-site shredding from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where anyone can bring down up to three banker boxes per vehicle to have confidentially destroyed.
The shredding is free but the Cochrane Eco Centre says any monetary donations made will go towards The Helping Hands Society.
Jail N Bail fundraiser to support Seniors for Kids Society
The Seniors for Kids Society is organizing a Jail N Bail fundraiser to raise money for its long-running program, which has been active for nearly 30 years.
The program connects senior volunteers with young people, offering mentorship as "school grandparents" to those who could benefit from their guidance and support.
Jail N Bail organizer, Marni Fedeyko said there's an opportunity for community members to turn themselves in or have their friends arrested.

With the annual Terry Fox Run just days away, a booklet has been released to recreate Cochrane's involvement in the Terry Fox Run from 1980-2024.
Compiled by longtime Terry Fox Run advocates Judy Stewart and Grace Atkin, the 30-page book walks the reader through the community's response to Terry Fox's call to continue his Marathon of Hope, and includes several clippings from local newspapers from over the year.
The forward is written by Fred Fox, Terry Fox's older brother, who is currently manager of supporter relations for the Terry Fox Foundation.
Cochrane jet skier faces four charges after injuring paddleboarder
A 31-year-old Cochrane jet skier faces four charges after colliding with a paddleboard and fleeing the scene.
In the earlier evening of Sept. 7, Cochrane RCMP responded to a report of a collision between a jet ski and paddleboard at Ghost Lake that resulted in injuries to a man on the paddleboard. The female youth accompanying him on the board was unscathed.
RCMP report the suspect fled the scene but was identified by witnesses to the collision and arrested.

Cochrane resident aids Jasperites through Team Rubicon
Long-time Cochrane resident Guyle Colling returned this weekend after spending eight days assisting Jasper residents recover some cherished personal items from their destroyed homes.
Colling was one of about 50 on Team Rubicon's second wave of volunteers. Others came from Ontario, the Maritimes, New Zealand, and there were a few other Albertans.
Major traffic shift at Hwy. 1A/22 roundabout this week
Cochrane drivers will notice a major change at the temporary roundabout at Hwy. 1A/22 this week.
Starting tomorrow evening, traffic along Hwy. 22 will begin moving to the new pavement north of the roundabout, rejoining the existing pavement near Ranche Road.
The new lanes will be open for commuters on Thursday morning.
A new ramp from westbound Hwy. 1A to northbound Hwy. 22 will open enabling traffic to bypass the temporary roundabout.
