Servicing agreement key to James Walker Trail expansion
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the town and owners of the Southbow Land will be terminated if a subdivision servicing agreement (SSA) isn't finalized by Oct. 12.
While not legally binding, the MOU lays out the responsibilities of both the town and Qualico in completing Stage 3 of the James Walker Trail (JWT) that would see it connected to Hwy. 22. It calls for Qualico to complete one kilometre of the trail's expansion and the town would complete 1.5 km.

Cochrane Rangers are best in province
The Cochrane Rangers women's open team are the top division 3 team in the province.
Over the weekend at the Alberta Soccer Association provincials, the Rangers rose to the top with passion and heart to bring home a gold medal in what has been a banner year for the team.
In the spring, essentially the same team won silver in indoor the provincials, also another first for a women's team from the Cochrane Rangers club.
Second phase of transit engagement announced
The town has announced the second phase of public engagement on the future of transit in Cochrane has been launched.
It will largely focus upon new network and service design principles that considers feedback from the first round of engagement conducted earlier this year.
The principles of frequency, coverage and span will guide the next phase of transit options.
There's a tight timeline on this one. Residents have until Sept. 15 to help prioritize the principles in a survey that is expected to take five to 10 minutes to complete.
NDP pulling out of supply and confidence deal with Liberals
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has ripped up the supply and confidence deal with the Liberals that helped keep the minority government in power.
In a social media video posted Wednesday afternoon, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said he notified Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of the decision.
"Canadians are fighting a battle. A battle for the future of the middle class. Justin Trudeau has proven again and again he will always cave to corporate greed," Singh said in the video directly addressing Canadians.
Three lives lost as RCMP record 1,982 traffic offenses in Alberta
Three people lost their lives on Alberta roads over the Labour Day long weekend.
Alberta RCMP recorded 1,982 traffic safety infractions from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2.
"Of the 1,982 tickets issued, 990 were for speeding, 35 for distracted driving, and 55 were issued for not wearing a seatbelt." RCMP stated.
Cochrane Mounties handed out four traffic tickets for speeding and one Immediate Roadside Sanction (IRS) was issued.
Across the province 92 drug or alcohol impaired drivers were taken off the roads.
Cochrane Victim Services transforms to new regional model
Cochrane & Area Victim Services is undergoing a significant transformation.
Maxine Wilton, board president of Cochrane & Area Victim Services said the Alberta Government has decided to move victim services to a regional model for program delivery.
"Any police based units within the province of Alberta which were being governed by individual boards have now shifted to four regional models, and the regional models align with the RCMP districts. Now Cochrane Victim Services falls under the Southern Alberta Regional Victim Serving Society."

Minimum of $116,3000 shortfall forecasted for transit
A minimum of a $116,300 shortfall in the budget of Cochrane On-Demand Local Transit (COLT) has been forecasted and could be higher should a short-term renewal be signed with Southland Transportation to maintain the additional 21.5 weekday hours of service until the end of the year.
During its committee-of-the-whole meeting last night, council was told the shortfall could total $203,000 should council agree to the extension of an agreement that's been in effect since January 2023.
The cost would come in 20 per cent higher than the approved budget of just over $1 million.

It's being held on Sept. 20 at the St. Mary's Church, 10 River Heights Dr., for those over 16 years old.
Teams of six will be answering a series of 10 questions on eight topics.
