Look up! How to watch the Perseid meteor shower over Cochrane
The annual Perseid meteor shower is lighting up the skies over Cochrane and local stargazers are in for a treat.
The event runs from now until August 24, with peak activity expected between August 12 and 13. During those nights, viewers could see up to 100 meteors an hour.
“It's a late-night event for sure,” says local skygazer Tim Giese. “You’re not going to catch much at 7 or 8 p.m. You’ll want to head out after 10:30 or 11, and it gets better the later you stay out, right into the early morning.”

RCMP in Cochrane renewed their appeal for public assistance as they continued to search for a missing woman and her young daughter on Wednesday evening.
As of Thursday morning, the pair were reported to be located safe in British Columbia.

Alberta’s Mountain Wave Classic surfs back next month
Surfers from across Alberta and beyond will gather in Kananaskis Country next month for the return of the Mountain Wave Classic, a unique river surfing competition set against the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains.
Now in its 15th year, the event runs August 23 and 24 at Canoe Meadows on the Kananaskis River, about 40 minutes west of Cochrane.
Organized by the Alberta River Surfing Association, the competition showcases athletes riding a semi-natural standing wave created specifically for river surfing.
