Sylvan Lake Wranglers win HJHL championship

The Okotoks Bisons' streak as Heritage Junior Hockey League champions has come to an end.

A 2-1 Sylvan Lake win at the Murray Arena on Thursday saw the Wranglers reclaim the title for the first time in 15 years.

Game 4, despite being the lowest scoring of the final series, saw the most shots on goal, with the Wranglers firing 29 attempts at Bisons netminder Connor White, and the Herd pelting visiting goalie Kaden Toussaint with 46 shots.

Bisons bounce back with 6-5 win in Sylvan Lake

The Carstar Okotoks Bisons may have been down heading into game 3 of the HJHL final, but after a hard-fought 6-5 win, they're certainly not out.

They were in Sylvan Lake on Tuesday night (March 25) after two consecutive losses to the Wranglers in the best-of-five series.

The reigning league champion Bisons may not have had home-ice advantage in the do-or-die third game, but they quickly made their presence known, with Trevor Bonham landing a goal at the six-minute mark, and Kegan Law making it 2-0 just 90 seconds later thanks to a power play.

GALLERY: Sheep River Health Trust's 10th annual Avenue of Trees

The Sheep River Health Trust’s Avenue of Trees is back.

Every November, local businesses and organizations decorate Christmas trees for the event, which are then auctioned off or donated to families in need.

This year there are 23 trees on display, 13 of which are to be auctioned, with the other 10 being “Trees of Hope,” which are donated.

It not only provides trees for families who wouldn’t have one otherwise, but also acts as a major fundraiser for the health trust, bringing in over $23,000 last year.
