Whitetail deer hunting season in Manitoba began October 23rd for muzzleloader in most areas and the general rifle season for whitetails begins on November 13th, and there are a few things our hunters need to remember when it comes to CWD and mandatory tissue testing.
Manitoba Conservation Officers now connected to 9-1-1 Dispatch Service
Four months after former Natural Resources and Northern Development Minister Greg Nesbitt and Justice Minister Kelvin Goertzen announced a new 24-7 centralized dispatch service for Manitoba Conservation Officers, this service has become available to COs.
It will enhance officer safety in the field and strengthen environmental enforcement across the province.
elicensing for fish or hunt - great step forward for Manitobans
Many Manitobans have embraced the new elicensing way of purchasing hunting and fishing licenses as it can be done entirely online. For those who prefer a face-to-face way of buying their licenses, there are still those who do sell them over the counter.
Program and Event Coordinator for the Manitoba Wildlife Federation, Chris Benson, says elicensing is a great step forward for those of us who want to get a license quickly.
Hunter Education Course keeps everyone safe out in the field
Hunting season for specific game and fowl are in full swing, and now is a good time to ensure you have your Hunters' Safety Certificate. And there are two ways you can acquire your Certificate; through an in-person course or online.
"Both are great courses and both courses and both will provide the hunter with a lot of information so that they can go out and enjoy the field with their friends and family," says Program and Events Coordinator for the Manitoba Wildlife Federation, Chris Benson. "This is a wonderful time of year to be outdoors and enjoy the Fall hunting."
CAA urging Manitobans to prepare for winter driving with 10 tips
As we anticipate winter’s blustery arrival, CAA Manitoba is one group reminding Manitobans to take the time now to prepare their vehicle and themselves.
“People often wait until the first snowfall before getting their vehicle ready to drive in winter conditions,” says Elisha Dacey, communications manager for CAA Manitoba. “Preparing now means your vehicle will be as safe as it can be when the cold weather comes,” she adds, “so we’ve prepared a Top 10 list to help you get started.”
Manitoba 4H gifts $70K each year in scholarships to Manitoba youth
Over the past 110 years Manitoba 4H has expanded to include almost every interest for their youth programming... from agriculture to home economics, from photography to art.
Each year the Manitoba 4H awards multiple scholarships to their graduating 4H members, or alumni, who are enrolling in post-secondary education.
"At 4H, we offer several different scholarship opportunities but Manitoba 4H Endowment Foundation funds ten $1000 scholarships in our province every year," shares Manitoba 4H Executive Director, Shannon Carvey.
After Thanksgiving, don't forget turkeys - lower in price than other proteins
Now that Thanksgiving weekend is in the rear-view mirror, don't forget about turkeys.
Thanksgiving and Christmas are the two biggest seasons for turkey consumption.
Stats for 2022, show that Canadians consumed 127.9 million kilograms of turkey, with 2.1 million whole turkeys purchased at Thanksgiving.
Darren Ference, Chair of the Turkey Farmers of Canada says Thanksgiving and Christmas are one of the major parts to the full bird market.

MCC helping those in our own back yards and around the world
The Mennonite Central Committee helps people all around the world, but we don't always think about how those funds raised through our local MCC Thrift Shops help those in the Southeast and across Manitoba.
MCC Manitoba's Executive Director, Darryl Loewen, says the MCC thrift shop not only helps folks purchase clothing and household items at a reduced price, and to share those funds through their agencies to help developing countries around the world, but also to help families in a very significant way our own back yard.
