Growing season coming to a close, but world hunger is on the rise

Harvest is wrapping up across the province, and for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank they have seen hundreds of thousands of acres come off the fields and into grain bins and elevators, all to support the eradication of hunger throughout the world.

In this year's season of harvest there were close to 4000 acres farmed in Manitoba for the Foodgrains bank says Gordon Janzen, Regional Rep for Manitoba. "Wheat, canola and soybeans are the main ones."

RCMP and community come together to find missing 3-year-old

On September 27, 2023, at approximately 9:20 pm, Morden RCMP received a report of a missing three-year-old male from the RM of Stanley. The child had been missing and the family searching for him for nearly two hours when police were contacted.

Police attended immediately and called the local fire department to assist as well. The RCMP Search and Rescue team and RCMP Police Service Dog Jolt were called to the scene as well as the RCMP Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) unit.

1000 lights in memory, honor and gratitude - CancerCare Manitoba

This December 1st, 1000 lights will be switched on at the McDermot Ave building in Winnipeg for CancerCare Manitoba's 'Shine a Light' campaign.

"This is not really a campaign, but more of a tribute opportunity that we launched last year," shares Sherelle Kwan, Community Events Manager at CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.  "We've created a light display at the McDermot Ave building where people can make a donation for a lightbulb that we shine in the windows in memory, honor, or gratitude."

Despite being surrounded by a wealth of food across North America, statistics show up to 783 million people in the world experience hunger, nearly 98% of people experiencing hunger live in developing countries, and around 80% of displaced people live in countries affected by long-term hunger. 

International Peace Garden marks 22nd anniversary of 9/11 with a memorial service

The International Peace Garden is inviting the public to join them on Monday, September 11 at the 9/11 Memorial site to remember those who were killed on that fateful day in 2001. This is the 22nd Anniversary of the events. 

In 2010, Rotary International, the North American Firefighters Union, and Manitoba Infrastructure donated the 9/11 Memorial which includes iron remnants from the collapsed towers at the World Trade Center. Today, local organizations host 9/11 remembrance events at the site and invite the public to join them.

Canadian High School Rodeo finals on in Brandon

The top 380 high school rodeo riders from Western Canada are competing this week at The Canadian High School Rodeo Finals at the Keystone Centre in Brandon.

Traditional rodeo events start Thursday morning, but the kick-off to the 4-day event begins today (Aug. 2nd) with two classes that are special to this year's competition: light rifle and trap shooting.

Province announces $470K for new Fish & Wildlife Enhancement projects

As part of its ongoing commitment to conserve and enhance fish and wildlife, the Manitoba government has approved $473,000 for new projects this year through the Fish and Wildlife Enhancement Fund (FWEF), Natural Resources and Northern Development Minister Greg Nesbitt announced on Friday.
