262-hour hockey game raises money for Alberta's Children's Hospital
The Hockey Marathon for Kids game wrapped up yesterday (April 17), and they raised a staggering $1.5 million for the Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation.
43 players took to the ice to raise funds for the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation while trying to break the Guinness Book of World Records for the most consecutive hours of playing ice hockey.
Man arrested for intimidating, interfering with police officer
A man has been arrested for obstructing and intimidating a police officer.
In early August, a Sheriff Highway Patrol officer was conducting traffic enforcement when he noticed a car that was parked behind him.
The individual in the car was recording the Sheriff and then proceeded to give him the middle finger.
Later that day, when the Sheriff was conducting another traffic stop, the same man drove up to the location and began recording again. Police say the man parked very close to the patrol car, which caused some concern for the Sheriff.
$11 Million in nurse bridging programs to take strain off healthcare professionals
There is a growing need of healthcare professionals in the province.
Post-secondary school play an important role in ensuring there are enough qualified nurses when and where Albertans need them. Alberta’s government is investing $11 million in nurse bridging programs for internationally educated nurses.
Through this funding, internationally educated nurses will have access to an additional 1,221 spaces at post-secondary institutions so they can complete the programs they need for certification in Alberta.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, along with Mental Health and Addictions Minister Dan Williams, signed a memorandum of understanding with Siksika Nation to increase addiction treatment capacity on the lands of Siksika Nation.
First Nations people across Alberta face some of the highest risk for overdose deaths and access to land-based, culturally safe addiction treatment services is often limited or missing completely.
Calgary Cancer Centre receives enormous donation
The Alberta Cancer Foundation (ACF), Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the University of Calgary (UofC) have announced a historic $50 million donation to the Calgary Cancer Centre from the Arthur J.E Child Foundation, the Calgary Cancer Centre will then be named the Arthur J.E Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
This donation will accelerate research innovations and will provide world-leading cancer care and treatments to Albertans, Calgarians and Canadians. This is the largest donation in the history of Alberta Health Services.

Inaugural Lead By Example Powwow to honour Kristian Ayoungman
The Lead By Example Powwow will be held in Strathmore from March 18 – 19, The powwow is to honour Kristian Ayoungman who was tragically murdered four years ago on March 17, 2019, on a highway near Strathmore. Ayoungman was an elite hockey player, including time with the Okotoks Bisons of the Heritage Jr. B hockey League, a champion dancer, and an inspiring leader to many other youths in the community.
