In reflecting back on the last 12 months, Ted Falk says January will be remembered for the Freedom Convoy, as truck drivers began their journey from western Canada all the way to Ottawa in an effort to protest vaccine mandates that still existed.
Travel agent offers travel tips after week of unprecedented flight delays
A Southern Manitoba travel agent says it has been a very busy week dealing with clients who have had their travel plans disrupted by all of the flight cancellations being felt across the globe.
The week of Christmas is already an extremely busy time for the travel industry, not only because people are flying to see their loved ones, but also for those planning a Christmas vacation. When massive storms walloped North America over Christmas, thousands of flights were cancelled, resulting in travellers either being stranded at their destination or stuck at home.
Safe driving in extreme cold
With southern Manitoba experiencing bitterly cold conditions, a Meteorologist is warning all of us to be extra careful when heading outdoors.
Natalie Hasell with Environment Canada says frostbite and hypothermia can occur, even when there is not an extreme cold warning in effect. She urges us to dress properly by wearing layers and making sure our footwear is waterproof and windproof. It is also important to cover extremities and as much exposed skin as possible.
Hydro rate increase could be less than expected in 2023
Hydro rates in our province might not be rising next year by as much as what had been anticipated.
Manitoba Hydro has filed an update to its recent multi-year General Rate Application with the Public Utilities Board (PUB). If approved the average electricity rate increase will be two per cent for each of the fiscal years of 2023-24 and 2024-25.

With a lot more snow headed for southern Manitoba, snow shoveling could be part of your daily chores more than once this week. A health and fitness coordinator from southern Manitoba is offering some helpful tips for keeping safe and eliminating the pain that can be caused by shoveling snow this time of year.
Colorado Low expected to hit southern Manitoba tonight
After days of talking about it, it appears the Colorado Low will move into southern Manitoba later this evening.
Danielle Desjardins is a meteorologist with Environment Canada. She says the wet and heavy snow will track from south to north, impacting portions of southern Manitoba late this evening and into the overnight periods. About five centimetres of snow is expected before morning.
"We are expecting that the morning commute will be quite slow because there will be ongoing falling snow tomorrow morning," she explains.
Colorado Low expected to hit southern Manitoba tonight

RCMP provide update on Steinbach Man missing for weeks
More than two weeks after a 29-year-old Steinbach man was first reported missing, family, friends and RCMP continue to search for his whereabouts.
On November 27th, RCMP received a report that Ryan Cody Maynard was nowhere to be found. Since then, numerous search parties have been organized.
RCMP Sergeant Paul Manaigre says this is still an active ongoing investigation. He says they are trying to solicit tips from the public in order to assist with the investigation.
More Manitobans dying from failing to buckle up
A Sergeant with Manitoba RCMP says the number of crashes they respond to, where someone has died who was not wearing a seatbelt, keeps climbing year after year.
Sergeant Paul Manaigre says so far this year, 29 individuals have died who were not wearing a seatbelt. There were 27 for all of 2021, 27 for all of 2020 and 25 in 2019.
Whiteshell landmark burns to the ground
A landmark in Rennie has burned to the ground. The Rennie Hotel was destroyed by fire early Thursday morning.
At 3:50 am, officers from the Whitemouth and Lac du Bonnet RCMP detachments were called to the hotel and post office as a fire was noted inside. Police say no injuries were reported. Both buildings were destroyed.
