Shaela Hayward, Keira Krahn, India Young and Rylie Cox are 2024 Canadian U18 curling champions.

The Carman Curling Club foursome defeated Jolianne Fortin of Quebec 8-5 in Saturday’s gold medal game in Ottawa.

Hayward started strong with three in the first end, gave up a duece in the second and then took control of the game thanks to four in the third end.

Team Hayward won four of six games in Pool C and then reeled off four wins in the playoffs.

They were the number one seed heading into the Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts and Sunday night Kaitlyn Lawes, Selena Njegovan, Jocelyn Peterman and Kristin MacCuish left as 2024 champions.

The Fort Rouge foursome defeated Beth Peterson, Kelsey Rocque, Katherine Doerksen and Melissa Kurz of the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club 9-8 in the final of the Manitoba Women’s Curling Championship in front of an appreciative full house at the Access Event Centre in Morden.

Season One is off and running.

The Professional Women’s Hockey League became a reality in late August with the announcement that six teams - Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Boston, New York and Minnesota - would begin play in January of 2024.
