Jets win regular season finale

The Winnipeg Jets are heading into the Stanley Cup playoffs riding a season-high eight-game win streak.

Nikita Chibrikov scored the go-ahead goal 5:18 into the third period in his NHL debut as Winnipeg defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 Thursday night at Canada Life Centre.

The eight-game win streak ties a franchise record. 

Cole Perfetti had a pair of goals for the Jets including an empty netter with 2:05 remaining in regulation. 

Gabriel Vilardi potted his 22nd of the season at 11:26 of the opening period.

The Winnipeg Jets clinched a berth in the Stanley Cup playoffs Thursday night.

Gabriel Vilardi scored three times as Winnipeg defeated the Calgary Flames 5-2 at Canada Life Centre.

It's Vilardi's first first career NHL hat trick.

Nikolaj Ehlers and Tyler Toffoli also scored for the Jets who have won back-to-back games after losing six straight.

Josh Morrissey chipped in with a pair of assists and Connor Hellebuyck made 31 saves.

Winnipeg went 2-for-4 with the man advantage.

Scotties Tournament of Hearts begins tonight in Calgary

Three former Canadian Under-21 champion skips will lead their teams into the opening draw of the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, which gets underway Friday at the WinSport Event Centre in Calgary.

And two of them — Alberta’s Selena Sturmay (Edmonton), who won the New Holland Canadian Under-21 Championship in 2019, and Manitoba’s Kaitlyn Lawes (Winnipeg), who won back-to-back national U21 titles in 2008 and 2009 — will go head-to-head in the opening draw at 6 p.m. (all times Mountain).
