Humboldt Broncos

The Humboldt Broncos are officially in the post season.

For the 8th straight year, the Broncos have punched their ticket to the SJHL Playoffs following a 4-1 victory in the last-ever meeting with the Notre Dame Hounds.

The Notre Dame Hounds, who will be relocating to Warman, SK next season, paid one final visit to the Elgar Petersen Arena on Friday. The SJHL’s two most geographically separated ‘natural-rivals’ dropped the puck one final time, with Humboldt, who had controlled much of the rivalry over the last handful of years, picking up one final win.

The Humboldt Broncos have received another commitment for the upcoming 2025-26 season.  

2007-born defenceman Finn McGhie has declared his commitment to the team. 

The Sherwood Park AB product is currently in his third season with the Sherwood Park Kings U18 AAA program and has 13 points (4G-9A) in 38 games.

The Broncos moved one win away from clinching another post-season birth following a 5-3 victory over the Yorkton Terriers on Friday night. 58 points is now the magic number to break into the playoffs. The Broncos reached 56 points snapping a two-game slump in the process.

In the culmination of another season series, the Broncos navigated through 60-minutes with no alarming needs for attention. Effort and simplified execution were on clear display leading to a much better outcome then seen on Wednesday night against Weyburn.

Humboldt Broncos forward Maddox Amaral has found his next hockey home.  

The Nipissing University Lakers announced the commitment of the Komoka, ON product.  

This season, Amaral has 26 points (10G-16A) with the Broncos. Over his three seasons in Humboldt, the 20-year-old has collected 95 points (39G-56A) in 146 games in green and gold.  

Just before the start of Saturday night’s Humboldt Broncos game, forward Brayden Skogstad was named the team’s RBC Community Ambassador.  

Players selected as RBC Community Ambassadors are recognized for making a difference and giving back to the community that they live in. Along with the honour, a $1,000 donation will be made to a school in the community.

Broncos’ vs Mustangs: It just means more.

It doesn’t matter if its game 7 in the finals or game 47 of the regular season. It just means more when the Broncos and Mustangs, two teams not even in the same division, go head-to-head.

The closet geographical opponent has been the league’s premium presence from wire to wire, boasting a 39-7-0 overall record, while somehow even more daunting at home, losing only once in 22 games.

With an eye towards the future, the Humboldt Broncos announced the commitment of 2007-born forward Kayson Christian for the upcoming 2025-26 season.  

The Lethbridge AB product is currently in his third season Lethbridge Hurricanes U18 AAA program where he serves as the team’s captain and has 41 points (18G-23A) in 36 games.  

Listed at 6’0 and 170 lbs, Christian has been playing U18 AAA since he was 15.  

One of the top rivalries in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) is back on the ice tonight as the Humboldt Broncos head to Melfort to meet the Mustangs.  

The teams will finish off their season series tomorrow in Humboldt.  

Melfort is the lone SJHL squad the Broncos have been unable to register a victory against this season. The Mustangs swept the previous home-and-home set back in December.  

Nobody was sporting Cooperalls, but the full history of the Humboldt was on display last Saturday afternoon during the alumni game at the Elgar Petersen Arena.  

Players from six different decades (1970s-2020s) travelled back to Humboldt for the weekend, giving fans of all ages a chance to see their favourites don the Broncos jersey at least one more time.  

Just under 40 former Broncos took part in the game. 

A local product has committed to the Humboldt Broncos for the upcoming 2025-26 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League season. 

On Friday, the Broncos announced the commitment of 2007-born defenceman AJ Paulsen. 

The Humboldt native is in his first season with the Prairie Hockey Academy’s U18 Prep Program and has posted 15 points (2G-13A) in 31 games this season.
