BBQ raises thousands for cancer research

150 people came out in support of Team Terry Fox last week at the Deleau/Sifton Centennial Park. It was one of the stops on the team's month-long cross-country challenge called, Ride of Hope 2025, biking from Vancouver, B.C. to St. John's, Newfoundland.
    
The riders were accompanied to the park by students from Souris and Hartney schools on their bikes, and emergency response vehicles from Oak Lake/Sifton, Hartney & Souris/Glenwood fire departments.

Crops are advancing well, more heat needed to push them further says Reinfeld area farmer

Crops seem to be in good shape at this point in the growing season, at least that's the case at Froese Enterprise in Reinfeld. 
    
Randy Froese says recent shots of rain have been very helpful in advancing the crop. 

"Corn is a little bit ahead of what it normally would be, which is nice. The canola is just starting to bloom (and) we're getting to the point where we'll be putting our fungicide applications on shortly. Dry beans are coming along very, very nicely, as well as soybeans."

As well, Froese says what rain we've had, has been timely.

Unlicensed, impaired driver taken off the road by Altona police

A driver was taken off the road after an encounter with Altona police officers last week Friday.
    
According to authorities, officers spotted the motorist, who was known to be unlicensed, driving with a young child in the vehicle. Eventually, it was determined the driver had also consumed liquor before getting behind the wheel.
    
Police say the driver failed a roadside test and was issued an immediate roadside suspension, and their vehicle was towed. 

W.C. Miller Class of 2025 parades through the streets of Altona

As is tradition each June, graduates of W.C. Miller Collegiate paraded down the streets of Altona Tuesday evening in celebration of their upcoming high school graduation.

The Class of 2025 will receive their diplomas during a ceremony on Thursday.

Motorist experiences offal mishap north of Altona

It looked like a scene straight out of a horror film and, despite the graphic result, a three-vehicle incident north of Altona on Wednesday afternoon ended with no injuries.

The chain reaction all started when a school bus heading north on Highway 30 slowed to turn right onto PR 201, explained Greg Zimmerman, Chief for Altona/Rhineland Emergency Services (ARES). 

Altona police investigating shoplifting incident at local grocer

Altona police are investigating after a shopper walked out of a local grocery store without paying last week Monday.
    
According to the report made to police, the suspect spoke to staff at the store in a distracting manner before leaving with a bag full of items.

He was observed driving away in a dodge pickup truck. Check out the photo below.

In an update Wednesday morning, the Altona Police Service said the truck had since been recovered.

The Altona Police Service is looking for the public's helping in recovering a truck that was stolen some time Monday night. 

It is a Grey Ford F350 crew cab with the license number CHH 294. It also has the business logo 'PGC' on the sides. 

Two youth sent to hospital following UTV/semi crash in the R.M. of Treherne

Two youths were taken to hospital following a UTV/semi crash Monday morning on Highway 244 in the R.M. of Treherne. 

According to RCMP, when officers arrived on scene, they discovered a semi-truck on the shoulder of the highway, facing north, and the UTV laying in the ditch on the west side of the road.

Morris School valedictorians ready for the next chapter

It's an exciting for the 58 students graduating from Morris School today. 

Among the group is co-valedictorians Nic Leflar and Kathryn Friesen, who both say they are excited for graduation and ready for the next chapter. 

For Nic, that means playing volleyball at CMU while studying to become an engineer.

"I've always had a knack for math and science and, that's kind of what an engineer does - all math and physics. I like building things, so I believe it is the right career."

'We did something for our community': New multi-sport court opens in Morris

The sound of bouncing balls and squeaking runners can be heard as people of all ages break-in the newly completed multi-sport court in Morris, just in time for summer holidays.
