The holidays can be a difficult time for people living with a problem drinker and it may bring a variety of feelings such as anxiety, confusion, disappointment, embarrassment, shame or anger. 

Al-Anon is a support group for families and friends affected by someone else's drinking (and/or drug abuse). Members learn about the family disease of alcoholism and how to cope with a problem drinker.  

A 50-year-old man from the RM of Hanover has been fined in connection to the shooting of a bald eagle, which is a protected species. 

On Friday, December 8th, Manitoba’s Conservation Officer Service received a TIP (Turn In Poacher) regarding a bald eagle that had been shot and wounded near Grunthal earlier in the day.

“Probably the balsam fir is the one that is most fragrant, albeit all the trees, they give you a real nice strong smell for the first couple of days and then after that you don't notice it very much,” he says. 

There is extra gratitude and kindness happening these days at Shevchenko School in Vita. 

This is part of a 30-day challenge, organized by teacher Mary Chalmers. 

“So, we make an announcement every morning and we remind people to practice either some gratitude or to practice kindness within our school for each and every day as they go out into the world, hopefully encouraging our students to be more kind, more grateful, and more empathetic,” she says. 

Mennonite wall clocks from the Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach are now on display at the Manitoba Museum in Winnipeg.

He will be leaving on Tuesday (November 14th) with Budapest as his first stop. 

The 2024 Grad Class at Shevchenko School in Vita will be holding a fundraising bingo this month to help pay for portions of their graduation celebration in June. 

Grade 12 student Kaitlyn Bergen is Vice-President of the Grad Committee and says this is their first fundraiser of the year. 

Singer-song writer Danny Plett is getting ready for a European concert tour to celebrate 30 years in the music industry. 

He will be leaving on Tuesday with Budapest as his first stop. 

“And then I take a car into Ukraine, because you can't fly into Ukraine anymore,” he explains. “All the airports have been bombed; they're all destroyed. So, you have to drive in. And I'll be doing a couple of concerts out there. I'll be there for about four or five days, something like that. And then I fly to Germany for a series of 14 shows.” 

Early in the new year, Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach will be hosting a unique exhibit put on by the Mennonite Historic Arts Committee. It is based on a large-scale coffee table book of photography called "Mennonite Village photography: Views from Manitoba". 

Senior curator Andrea Klassen says this exhibit features a beautiful collection of never-before-seen photographs left behind by four Manitoba Mennonite photographers from the early twentieth century. Two are from the East Reserve while the other two are from the West Reserve.
