RECAP – Road trip opens with loss in Lethbridge

Lethbridge, AB – A three-goal second period by Lethbridge was too big of a hole for the Moose Jaw Warriors to climb out of on Tuesday as their Alberta road trip opened with a 6-2 loss to the Hurricanes.

Moose Jaw did very well throughout the first period. Their forecheck attacked the Hurricanes inside their zone, and they created several turnovers, which led to extra attack time. In the neutral zone, they were able to break up several Lethbridge rushes. They did a good job keeping the Hurricanes outside in the defensive zone to reduce their quality chances.

“Adding Luke gives us more skill in our 2007 age group as we continue to build for the future.  He is a great playmaker with good hockey sense,” commented General Manager Jason Ripplinger.  “Krzysztof gives us skill and a good work ethic.  He should add scoring to our lineup and keep us competitive.”

“Acquiring Matthew gave us a chance to add a quality goaltender with WHL experience, and we were also able to add a couple more draft picks,” commented General Manager Jason Ripplinger.

“Matthew has a lot of upside, and we are hoping he can give us some stability in our net and keep competing with Josh (Banini),” he added.

RECAP – Third period comeback falls short against Saskatoon

Saskatoon scored two power-play goals in the third period and added a late empty-net marker in a narrow 4-2 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors at the Events Centre.

The first period was fast and physical as both teams played a smothering style to reduce the quality scoring chances.

Saskatoon scored the game’s first goal just over two minutes into the game. Tyler Parr led a rush down the left Warrior boards and then fired the puck on the net. The puck went off the pad of goalie Brady Smith and was stuck in the crease, where Parr came in and knocked it in.

The 18-year-old defenceman put the puck towards the net, where Owen Berge deflected it past Raiders’ goalie Dmitri Fortin. His eighth of the year gave Moose Jaw an early lead.
