SaskPower outage for rural customers near Bruno

SaskPower announces a planned power outage for customers to the north, west and south of the town of Bruno. The outage is planned for Wednesday, July 5 between 10:30 am and 2:00 pm. 

Customers are advised that they will experience only 15 - 20 minutes outages during the time frame.

SaskPower thanks customers for their cooperation. 

Tornado causes damage in Foam Lake area

Last night’s string of thunderstorms that passed through Saskatchewan produced several funnel clouds and tornadoes causing damage. 

Touchdowns were confirmed by Environment Canada near a number of communities including Margo, Foam Lake, Manitou Beach, and Cymric. Confirmed damage was reported in at least one farmyard in the Foam Lake area where downed power lines shut down Highway 16 for a period of time. 

The old man and the slough

I pulled over onto a grid road alongside Highway 5 this morning to shout out to a solitary hale and hearty fisherman drifting in a boat in the slough south of the main drag. I asked him if anything was biting. 

Erect and stoic, he didn’t respond, singularly dedicated to his quest.

I overcame my fear that my yelling was scaring the fish away, and I asked him if the light drizzle was making his chances any better. Again, not a word. 

Cougar sighting in Bruno

Residents of Bruno are advised to be on the lookout for a cougar sighted within town limits. Town administrator Collette Radcliffe confirmed the report by a local business owner on the west edge of town. RCMP and Environment Ministry Officers have been contacted. 

Conservation officers were not available by press time to confirm the sighting. However, the Ministry of Environment Senior Communications Val Nicholson forwarded the following statement:

Conexus Credit Union has been the title sponsor for the Conexus Humboldt Broncos Memorial Golf Tournament for five years. The 5th Annual Edition is slated for August 5 and 6, along with the long awaited SJHL Hall of Fame Induction Banquet and the Hunter Brothers Concert. 

The long term relationship has become important to both organizations. For Conexus, it’s part of their desire to be engaged with the community, says Humboldt Centre manager, Tammy Ward. 

Royals and Outlaws take one apiece in Sunday doubleheader

The Marysburg Royals split their Sunday afternoon double header with the Saskatoon Outlaws. The game played in Marysburg saw the Outlaws take command of game one with runs by Erik Trakalo and James Reaser in the second. The Outlaws chalked up another pair scored in the third. 

The Royals faced  some early struggles at the plate.Brody Frerichs brought in the sole Royals run for a 7-1 Outlaws win.

Nestled in the hills west of Bruno is the farm of Justin and Jodi Tremel. The family, friends and helpers welcomed the 107.5 Bolt FM crew for another Meal in the Field. After the dry weather of 2021, Justin said that he was pleased with seeding progress this year.

The kids were busy buzzing about, as the adults enjoyed a visit and a wonderful meal catered by the BV. Roast beef, pork cutlets, tender oven roast potatoes and a variety of salads and vegetables were all on the menu.

Premier greets summer with a cabinet shuffle

Premier Scott Moe engaged in a little pre-summer cabinet shuffling on May 31 as five MLA’s with previous cabinet postings found themselves with new portfolios. Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty swore in the new members of cabinet whose numbers remain at 18. 

"Never before has Saskatchewan had such an opportunity at a global level to grow our exports, our industries and our economy," Moe said.  "Saskatchewan has among the most sustainable resources in the world, and this growth results in better services, programs and opportunities for Saskatchewan people."
