Cherry Festival struck by vandals
This year's Bruno Cherry Festival was marred by a destructive act of mischief before it even started.
On August 13, 2023,the town of Bruno hosted their annual Cherry Festival. The night before the event, an unknown person or persons vandalised two port-a-potties that resulted in $2000 worth of damage.
Relief on the way for water woes

A day of special treats at Bruno Cherry Sunday
Following a misty morning, the clouds parted on Bruno Cherry Sunday this past weekend, allowing hundreds of people to gather on the St. Therese grounds to enjoy the sights and sounds. The site was teeming with activity, including a bustling marketplace, food favourites like the Cherry Sundaes provided by Bruno School students, and of course the elephant ears drenched in cherry sauce.
The entertainment tent was a popular destination with people taking a break from the heat to enjoy some of the best local talent.
RCMP seeking missing 18-year-old male
Tisdale RCMP is requesting assistance from the public in locating missing 18-year-old, Christopher Horth (Hallam).
Chistopher was last seen going for a walk in Bjorkdale, Saskatchewan on August 6th, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m., wearing black cargo pants, black shoes, a black tank top and a red jacket.
Christopher is described as a male, approximately 5’9 and 140 lbs. He has short brown hair and brown eyes. He is known to wear glasses or contacts. Photos of him are attached.
Chainsaw Carving Festival packs them in once again at Manitou Beach
Once again, the Manitou Beach Chainsaw Carving Festival did not fail to impress with a host of talented woodworkers rough hewing logs and refining them into remarkable works of art. As well as large trunk-sized sculptures, the artists were again tasked with producing smaller “quick round” pieces that were no less impressive in their detail.
Broncos' head coach Scott Barney signs five-year extension
The Humboldt Broncos board has demonstrated clear confidence in its head coach by offering Scott Barney a five-year extension to his contract starting with the 2023-24 season. Barney secured the head coaching position halfway through his initial year with the Broncos during their 2018-2019 season. His impressive record of 132-55-9-2 during his tenure as bench boss makes him one of the winningest coaches in the SJHL.
In a released statement, the Humboldt Broncos board elaborated on that confidence.
RCMP urge safe restraints of child passengers
Saskatchewan RCMP is reminding drivers to pay attention to properly securing youngsters in vehicles. Drivers have a legal obligation to make sure children are safe when travelling.
In its weekly communication, RCMP stated the Combined Traffic Services (CTSS) has identified 198 children under the age of 7, as well as 49 children between the ages of 7-15, as not having been properly restrained using seatbelts or child restraints during traffic stops. The infractions resulted in charges.

Take a spin back to the 50s, 60s and 70s when the twist was all the rage, and you could boogie down to the ground. The Humboldt Community Soup Kitchen is hosting a sock hop fundraiser on Friday, August 25 at the Muenster Community Centre.

It's time once again for the Humboldt Broncos Memorial Golf Tournament.
The Humboldt Broncos Memorial Golf Tournament is a sell-out on the course already, but organizers say there are other ways the community can get involved in the excitement. The tournament, slated for August 12, is hosted by Colorado Avalanche coach Jared Bednar and Humboldt native son Brian Munz to raise funds for scholarships and charitable works, continuing the 2017-2018 Broncos’ legacy.
