Human trafficking on the rise in Saskatchewan, Canada: RCMP

Saskatchewan RCMP are shedding more light on the issue and crime of human trafficking after a disturbing case surfaced in the province last week.

The Mounties announced Thursday they had laid charges following revelations that a woman who relocated to Saskatchewan was being forced to work 10-12 hour days seven days a week while living in a dimly lit, unfinished basement.

City rejects bids on a pair of key projects

Humboldt City Counci said “no” to project bids on a pair of renovations set out as Requests for Proposal earlier in the year. The washroom at Jubilee Hall in the Uniplex and the roof reno for the Reid Thompson Library have been on the radar, but the City indicated it was not prepared to accept the bids that came in at well over the projected budget. A pair of reports were presented to Council at a special meeting on July 10.

Discovery Ford's PBR event gives back to local communities

Last month’s Professional Bull Riding extravaganza was a success on all fronts, particularly for the community groups and agencies that helped Discovery Ford put on the show. A number of service organizations volunteered for everything from beverage and food service to security and hospitality. Those groups received cheques for the proceeds from their efforts. Discover Ford ensured the dollars from the event went back into Humboldt and area communities through those supporting volunteers.

Melfort RCMP arrest man threatening people with machete on James Smith Cree Nation

On July 16, around 10:45 am, Melfort RCMP received a call about an armed male on James Smith Cree Nation. An investigation determined the male, who was armed with a machete, was threatening individuals, including James Smith Cree Nation security officers, who initially responded and secured the area until police arrived.

Vehicle ruins road speed sign in Muenster

The Village of Muenster and Humboldt RCMP are hoping for some help in determining who is responsible for an act of vandalism in the village.  

In the overnight hours of Friday, July 21 to Saturday, July 22, between 9 pm and 3 am, an electronic speed sign in the ditch adjacent to College Avenue was struck by a vehicle and pushed several yards down the roadway. The sign, with an estimated value of $3500, was severely damaged.
