With new and old businesses opening and infrastructure updates Midale has laid the foundation for continued growth in the new year.

“We’ve been very busy through the community this year both with Infrastructure and things happening,” said Al Hauglum, Mayor of Midale.

The Midale Qwick Stop reopened, along with the car wash, and they welcomed Big Bob's Meats to town.

“People are starting to reopen; they have faith in the community again.”

The RM of Cymri and the town of Midale worked together on the Fire and Rescue Hall and celebrated the grand opening in June of this year.

Infrastructure upgrades in Midale continued throughout the year after receiving a grant to install new water meters in town.

A separate grant through the Canada Community Building fund meant an upgraded water treatment plant. This was completed in October, with an approximately $120,000 price tag.

Running water and sewer to the new daycare was also a big undertaking. The daycare is slated to open in the new year, but the exact date is uncertain.

Recreation was also on the upswing this year, and a new full-time rec director was hired for the RM and Midale.

“That will help immensely with our sporting and everything else arts, culture, and recreation in Midale,” said Hauglum.

The annual rodeo is a staple in the community which is held on the long weekend each August.

The street dance was one of the town's most notable events in 2023, bringing around 1500 people.

The Johner Brothers, Brayden King, and Micah Walbaum provided the entertainment for the dance, and the event brought in around $30,000.

"The proceeds were split across all six groups that helped,"

The Rec board’s annual M.O.R.E auction in April was also a huge success and all the money raised during that fundraiser went back into the yearly operations of the Harry O Memorial Rink.

“I’m happy with how the year turned out. How busy it was and how much got completed through the year,” said Hauglam

Midale’s Plus One Club is also influential in the community, and they hosted a Santa Clause parade in November, followed by a hot dog lunch and a visit from Santa.

“We are very fortunate to have this club in Midale,” said Hauglum

The budget for 2024 hasn’t been completed yet, but there are plans to continue making more infrastructural changes within the community.

“I would like to thank all the volunteers in Midale for all the clubs and committees they sit on. You make our town a better place to live”
