The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings came into their game against the Notre Dame Hounds in Assiniboia Tuesday night on a three-game losing skid and were looking to turn things around to prepare for the playoff push. A pair of goals from Jaxon Ruthven, clutch goaltending from Dazza Mitchell, and a game-winner from Braigh LeGrandeur would lift the Red Wings to a 5-3 victory, ending the skid at three, and extending Notre Dame's to seven.

The Hounds opened the scoring at the 3:36 mark of the first when Van Eger scored his first goal of the season, but then Weyburn would reply with two goals in five minutes.

First, Lucas Schmid scored his fourth of the campaign, assisted by Rhett Vedress and Lucas Jeffreys, at the 8:57 mark. Then, with 7:09 left in the first period, Ruthven's eight of the year and first on the night, scored on the power play, gave Weyburn a 2-1 lead. Max Monette and Jerome Maharaj had the assists on the goal.

The Hounds would get one goal before the end of the period, though, with Cole Wirun making it 2-2 with 2:43 remaining.

In the second period, Notre Dame regained the lead, as Carson Baylis scored a shorthanded marker just 4:48 into the game. That would be the last goal Mitchell would let in, though, as the Red Wings would take over the game at that point.

Exactly five minutes after the Baylis goal, Jacob Visentini scored his tenth of the campaign on the power play to even the game up 3-3. Matthew Hodson and Monette had the assists on the goal.

In the third period, the Red Wings would take the lead and run away with it, as LeGrandeur notched his third of the year with 9:57 to play. Nicholas Kovacs and Brendan Hunchak had the assists on the goal.

Thirty-three seconds after LeGrandeur gave the Red Wings the lead, Ruthven's second goal of the game would make it 5-3 for the Red Wings, with Schmid and Maharaj assisting.

With the win, the Red Wings remain one point back of the Estevan Bruins for second place in the Viterra Division, and two points back of the Melville Millionaires for first. The Red Wings will look to make that ground up, and also move up in the overall standings, as they host the Kindersley Klippers for a pair of games at Crescent Point Place on the weekend.
